Adapter for cordless drill to reel handle...
Hey all, a few weeks back we tried using an 18 volt cordless drill and a very mickey mouse (sorry, Mickey) adapter I made up to reel up our dops for bait checks (that's not true, using the dandy rig that MarkMC posted, we never had to...) or to pick up to reposition. You had to get the angle of the dangle just right and by gosh, it worked pretty good. Well, that made me want to make some improvements, so I came up with this version. I have a small manufacturing company, so get to use some pretty fun tools. I made this out of 304 stainless, a bit under 1/8" thick. It's hell-for-stout, and I hand tuned the fit so it's just snug. I'm not sure if I need the leg that tucks under the handle or not. I also just cut a 1/4" square in the center to be able to use a common hex to socket adapter. This fits my Penn 330LD reels. Now I'm just waiting for a weekend to try it out! I thought about going into some sort of production with these, but it looks like there are way too many handle configurations...

Re: Adapter for cordless drill to reel handle...
Thanks Gary,
Forgot to mention, that a 12 volt drill ran out of poop very quickly, could have been old batteries, but they came off the charger the day before. We also had an 18 volt, brand new, and it had all kinds of power, didn't seem to strain it at all.

Well, that's pretty simple! I would be a little worried about stripping out the threads, though.... How long have you used it? Actually, if I had made that part for a customer, at shop rate, that sucker would be two or three hundred bucks! But, even at a smallish production run, they should be less than $10.00.

Re: Adapter for cordless drill to reel handle...
I bought a few of the Fishing Dreels and they worked ok from 250' last weekend, a new battery worked better than my 10 year old ones and it was easy to install.
I'd like to see how well it does at 800' hopfully on the 28th
By the way, no butts but we came back to T-bay and I had my line in for 3 minutes and hooked a 24# buck so it was a good day!

Re: Adapter for cordless drill to reel handle...
The fishing dreel has worked fine for me. Many trips up from 750 a few weeks ago. Just bought 2 additional batteries, so I am good to go.

Re: Adapter for cordless drill to reel handle...
Question, can we use full electric reels in Oregon... or is this an inexpensive alternative?

Re: Adapter for cordless drill to reel handle...
Yes, this is just an inexpensive alternative. I believe most charters use electrics. I could be wrong.....
