Change of work schedule
With the rising cost of fuel prices. Employees like myself are asking for a shorter work week.
We are asking for 4 days on and 3 days off. With 10 hrs work days.
As of right now we are doing 5 days work week, 8 hrs per day.
So would you rather do 4 days of 10 or 5 days of 8 ?
Keep in mind that the 4 days plan is to cut back the cost of fuel.
Thanks for your opinions....

I would rather work 3 12 hour days and have 4 off.

Re: Change of work schedule
I used to work 4 tens, and loved it. You could actually get more work done, and it was great to have an extra day off to do things -- like go fishing

Re: Change of work schedule
I'd be all for it. Three 12's wouldn't be bad either.

Re: Change of work schedule
I currently work 3 on/4 off the next week 4 on/3 off 12hr days. Its nice to have so many days off in a row every week. Especially come hunting season. If it wasn't for that schedule I likely wouldn't be working where I do... As for saving on gas absolutely. Three of us carpool together so you only drive once a week. The compressed work week is the way to go.

Re: Change of work schedule
Worked 4-10's for 2 years, but didn't get it this year, 3 days off is the good part, 10 hr day is the bad part.

i work in heathcare field. My boss is a archery hunter too so he set up the work schedule so we could have 7 days off to hunt without having to use our vacation time.

Re: Change of work schedule
Until I owned my own business I worked 5-10's with a 2-3hr most saturdays - white collar slave. Now when it's busy I can work 6-7days a week and when it's slow maybe 20hrs a week.

Re: Change of work schedule
We work 5 - 8's during the winter due to daylight constraints and 4 - 10's the rest of the year. It is significantly more productive in the construction industry. Also gives the guys a chance to work 5 or 6 - 10's when the weather is good and the work is there. I expect more people to move closer to work and the speed limit will be reduced to improve fuel efficiency.

Re: Change of work schedule
Sounds like a good plan to me but then again I'm an owner and I work 6 or 7 days a week 12 hour days. 4 - 10's sound real good.

except I travel alot so I don't get to do the car pool thing.
However, the company pays for the trip to the airport, etc, so it ain't all bad

Re: Change of work schedule
We are on 5x8's but hopefully going to 4x10's. We work 4 10's when we need to but never for extended time.
I love the 3 days off. And we carpool with 4 guys, so every week you only drive 1 time would be great.

Re: Change of work schedule
Did it for 8 years on swingshift. I don't mind 5x8 but if you commute, it does save you money.
