Above and Beyond
I'll post about Saturday's adventure and my LONG list of thanks for a great day when I get dug out from under the workload this morning.
But first, a note from our sponsors (so I can get this off my chest and concentrate) -
We really, really need to appreciate what we have in our Harbor Masters. I'm speaking in particular of Depoe Bay. Gary is just a SUPER guy! He really goes above and beyond for us (ifishers, at least) and I think we need to be very careful to protect this resource.
Those of you who've fished out of Depoe probably know what I'm talking about here. If you haven't fished out of that port or don't know what I'm referring to, please email me and I'll be happy to fill you in.
Let's make sure that we show our gratitude and take care of our Harbor Masters.
1) He isn't your mother. Please leave the place (cleaning stations, etc) cleaner than you found it.
2) Throw large fish carcasses directly into the dumpster provided. Hauling those 30-50 gal trash cans and emptying them must be back-breaking work.
3) When finished with cleaning, hose the place down and pick up the "large chunks" that didn't make it into the cans or disposal.
4) If you show up very late or very early, be respectful of the neighbors and keep the noise-level down. (this way we can ensure that we continue to have this privilege
5) Remember that one bad apple spoils the bunch. Let's make sure none of us ifishers is the bad apple - and spread the word when talking with others.
6) PAY THE LAUNCH FEE! $2 at Depoe? C'mon, you can find that rolling around in your truck. Last Sat., Gary reported that the $ in the box only covered 1/2 of the trailers in the parking lot. (Sheesh, I think I'll go ahead and pay the 2 bucks next time even if I'm just parking there)
7) If he leaves the lights on for you, show your appreciation. A sincere thank you goes a long way.
I'll get off the hood of the truck now. Thanks for listening.
