ANOTHER tag draw question
So I checked and drew Zilch ! My last choice for deer was high cascades, which always has more tags than applicants....same with my elk being a "master hunter". How can you NOT get a tag on a deal like that????
Then I see I have no more pref. points for the hunts than I did last year....Do they put those in later?????
Maybe I just don't understand guvm'nt....

Re: ANOTHER tag draw question
to draw high cascade buck 1st choice is possible, second choice very unlikely. points are lost when you get drawn, gained when not drawn. if you lost points and did not get drawn, i hope you have your printouts saved

Are the points for this year posted yet? Oh and I drew a high cascade hunt and it was my second choice.

Re: ANOTHER tag draw question
there is only about a 15% chance to draw that tag as a second choice, and no the pref points numbers have not been updated online yet

If you had it as your last choice (assuming 5th choice), all the tags were given out to the 1st and 2nd choice applicants. And as far as your elk unit goes, they don't take master hunters into consideration during the draw.
Your preference points will be updated in December of '08. Wheels.

Very true..............limited tags = still need the points. Good luck next year p8hook. It amazes me that some antlerless hunts take 10-14 points to draw. Wheels.

Re: ANOTHER tag draw question
Or explain this one (not to hijack)... I had 3 points for an elk tag that draws with 3... I didn't draw, but people I know with 1 point did...

The one pointer was a 25% pooler. Your unit must not have been able to accomodate all the people with three points. Check the point summary report to see. Go to ODF&W website, hunting resources, hunt statistics, point summary report.

Re: ANOTHER tag draw question
I don't understand how some hunts that fill out all the applicants say guys with 9,8,7 points then the guys with 8 points get left behind and some 6 pointers ( ) get drawn. Is it because the guys with 8 points might have had a party hunt that did not equal 8 or that they applied with a out of stater and there were no more out of state tags to give out?

I bet they had out of state members in their party and the non-resident quota was already filled. One out of stater will mess up your entire group...

Re: ANOTHER tag draw question
Thanks that was what I was thinking I would have hated to have 8 points and get passed over by a 7 pointer that didn't seem fair there had to be a reason.

Re: ANOTHER tag draw question
ha ya i think you have a point but from past experience not one of the better tags. its been really dry and hot and no one likes to be sweaty and hunting and the tag soup for me the past three years hasnt made me very fond of that tag but now that i am done venting about it thats something to look into for sure
