Default some do and some dont

why do some people catch fish and others dont????????
living here on the river we see many boats go down the river and hear many conflicting reports.

boatA says they fished hard and never had a bite
boat B put in an hr. later and limited out.
both boats were using the same bait today -
shrimp tails
three boats ahead of jim bateman today never had a bite.
is it because one knows the river???????and the other dosn't?????
good Question

I really believe that knowledge, competence, and technique are a majority, being in the right place at the right time is pretty important also.

I think it has to do with skill, confidence and a little luck. Good bait always helps.

The 10% have some things going for them that the other 90% don't. Overall knowledge. They have a history of fishing that gives them the skills to know where fish will hold in different conditions. The 10% folks can catch fish on any river. They know tackle and bait. They pick good bait and they know which plugs will catch fish in given conditions. They have fished, have put in their time and for them, luck is just a plus.

Then there's the regulars. They fish the same water with the same small suite of tackle. They usually catch their fish in the same spots. They've put their time into a handful of locations and a few techniques. They're the kind of folks who will walk into a spot and limit in ten minutes when the hole has been pounded all day by people not as familiar with the location.

Then there's the rest of us. We have 9-5 type jobs that limit our ability to be on the water. We aren't "hardcore" like some others are about fishing. We probably didn't inherit a long line of fishing knowledge from our family. We don't have a dedicated guru teaching us the finer points of the sport. We don't have Goat Juice, Carrot Milk, Squirrel Jelly or some other secret sauce. We're just out figuring it out for ourselves, putting in our time. We don't have to catch fish to have a good day out. When we catch a fish, it's a pretty big deal. We don't generally need a hatchery tag. Twenty fish a year is more than enough for us.

Amp, I think you've got it. I've put my time into trying to become a regular. The more I focus on a spot, seems like the better it gets. I about only fish two rivers anymore, and my catch rate has gone up as a result.

At this time of year, I think luck has a large amount to do with it. When the fish are scattered, it is just tough to get on them. It's easy to waste a lot of energy right now when the numbers are low, and lose energy for three weeks from now, when effort will pay off.

several good reasons why some people do and some people dont.
but what i was trying to point out was why some people just catch fish when others dont.
these people arent what you would call exellent fishermen nor do they work hard at there task in fact they do everything wrong [in my book]
jim bateman is a good example of this.
he puts in late about 10;00 ,has to stop and b.s.with the bank maggots, trims brush out so they can cast, and farts around most of the day and still catches more fish than most people,
his secret?? he says fishing isn't only about catching fish. strange????????????
sometimes i wonder about some people that put in here.
then again maybe there should be more jim batemens

Zaq - even if they had electric batteries back then, Jesus still wouldn't have had an electric motor on his driftboat. Heck, he wouldn't have even bothered with the boat, he would have just walked on water, slowly backtrolling plugs as he slowly walked down the sweet slots.

People have been fishing a small stream near my home. I drive along it daily. I will see 5 to 10 trucks a day at variuos points on the river. About a month ago we had a flood and the mouth of the river changed. About 3 feet of rocks and gravel elevated the channel for about 150 yds into the river. this created a bunch of channels an inch or two deep at most. If you looked at it you can tell that since the water dropped no fish could get up this river even if they could tail walk for a 100yds. So everyone fishing up stream has been fishing in a river that no fish can get into. I stop and ask them how the fishing is and they say slow, I ask them if they have seen the mouth lately. I bet the think it's bad luck, the indians netting or just between runs.

I am not an expert but I have owned enough boats to know that some boats catch fish better than others . I started doing research and started checking into electricity coming from a boat .There will be good or bad Electricity put into the water.I will have to back up and say all boats with a battery will put out good or bad currents into the water .Scotty dowriggers have a book out that explains it well . I have a friend that is very good with electricity . Luckiley he likes to catch fish too . He worked on both of our boats and had great succesy and improved our boats so that we started to catch a lot more fish .You will need to add zink . How much more will depend on an ohm meter .The commercial fishermen that long line in the ocean have sent a charge of electricity down there wire lines to attract and draw the fish to there boats . FISHERMEN MARINE is where I bough my book and that was a long time ago .I lent my book out so many times that I can’t remember you forgot to return it . Sorry that I have forgotten the title of it . I hope that this will help someone .I am not very good at typing and have spent about an hour trying to type this .Good luck .
