Default Roll Call?? 8/31 - 9/2 (this weekend)

Forecast IS improving, got a sneaky feeling that the weather gurus are exaggerating again. The thermal trough that the the marine forecast calls for is not apparent in the forecasts for any of the Southern Oregon or Northern California citys. Without the thermal trough, the wind ought to stay under control. I think(hope, prayer, whatever....) that Sunday / Monday will be fishable. Which day is better for who??? Any takers for a multi-boat hunt again?

Also is anyone interested in a Lorance X-16 ci (new, minus transducer & gps antenna), I have a spare im thinking about selling, thought I would see if any Salty Dogs were interested prior to puttting in general calssifieds.

I'll be down at Depoe Bay Thursday night and will
be fishing Friday thru Tuesday (my last long week-
end of the summer :depressed: )

I usually monitor channels 80 and 16 on the VHF and
Channels 27 and 13 on the CB because the Depoe Bay
Charters monitor vhf 80 and Irish is on CB 27. What
a nice old gentleman that Ken on the Irish is!! I
have never met him face-to-face, but have talked to
him on the radio a *lot*. He is an excellent tuna
fisherman and is usually one of the high-liners, so
if you have a CB, you might want to spend some time
listening to him talk. He has called me in to several
bites this year ... gives me lat/lon and everything!
Very helpful!

Hope to see some of you down there again this week-
end running for the tuna grounds! Good luck, and
remember people, lets be careful out there! There
is no fish in the ocean that is worth your life!!!

Uglygreen,

I'm in if the ocean cooperates ... I could do any of the three days. If the forecast stays as is, I'll probably head north (Tillamook) for salmon and wait until the following weekend...you're right about the forecast, it looks like it keeps improving a tich every time...

Assassin, Ken is a great guy. I have talked with him a number of times at South Beach, and I went with him once last year just to get to know him...once he sees you know what to do with a rod, he really opens up. He gave me all kinds of interesting information and tips....I hear he is retiring, like September is it for him....too bad...nobody in the charter fleet fishes harder than him.

I'll be in Waldport through Mon. I'm tempted to bring the boat and do the tuna thing again. Sun. would be better for me, I'd love to get some rest before work on Mon. I'll e-mail you with my beach phone #. The next week is a sure thing though!

Hey Greg, how'd canning go?

Count me in for the weekend after labor day. If it is at all possible and my mate wants it too, we are there.

I've decided to go to the boat Fri. and stay thru the following weekend to see if I can't just pick my days. Might have to visit the office once during that time, but hope to be able to pick it. Hey Pilar, if you guys decide to gang up out there like last weekend, let me know in advance. I'd love to have Jennifer take a picture of my boat in the fog! Fish Wisperer that was an awesome shot! Don't know how many family and friends are going to be around, but there might be a seat or two during that time. The "ORIGINAL Julie Rose" will be on deck this next week, and she's looking forward to meeting some of you.

If the water is flat enough on sunday I am very interested in following along for a tuna hunt.
I just finished rigging the extra tanks and tank switch valves. On a bad dayI should have enough for 115 miles with a 1/3 reserve, a good day would be closer to 200 miles. I've been
following the posts on tuna gear, and $240.00 later I think I'm set to go. If the water temp and
seas agree I'll be there Sunday AM (or Sat eve.).
I understand that there is enough room at the ramp in Depoe Bay to sleep in a camper??
Any further info would be appreciated.
Thanks

You guys are killing me!

I might be able to do Monday. I'll tell my wife I'm going out of town on business.

Well...I second thought...that probably won't work since I'm out of a job at the moment.

Aaaggghhh well, I'll figure out some excuse by then!

Hey Ugly, I'll be in Waldport fri. thru mon. give me a call if you plan on going (541-563-5902) I'd like to see the ocean lay down a little more but am willing to give it a shot.

Pliar, the canning was a success! Thanks for the tip about outdoor canning, I can see where this would be a problem in doors.

UG,

I can't ! ARRRGGGHHHH!!

I've already made plans with my hunting partners to scout our deer area this weekend.

Don't scratch me off your list, though. Tell me there's gonna be more chances in September!

And thanks for the offer.

I'm with you gregotis -- earlier forecasts looked great for Monday, now it's not quite as encouraging....my cell is (541) 740-4975. I'm still not sure what I'm doing for the weekend, but whatever it is, I could be in Depoe Bay Monday.

thanks

Forecast is looking even better. I might try to get some herring in Newport and just might try to keep some of the little guys alive.

P.S. Ugly, do you have a # I can reach you at?

The latest forecast indicates great water for Monday-- let's roll...I'll be there most likely Sunday night -- Depoe Bay that is....I'm watching Sunday's forecast with interest as well, if it changes dramatically I'll make the run that day too...dang, early next week really looks flat --

By the way, it looks like it was really flat today, check out Stonewall bank - 2.5 foot swells and .7 to 1 foot windwaves. The forecasters screwed it up royally this time. This really annoys me, and if it is flat tommrrow I am gonna be a little PI$$ED!!!

Weather today was outstanding, but take a look at the SST pics, especially coastwatch. The warm water has moved out and the water that was north appears to have rolled over to cooler water. The latest pic of any clarity is the 9/1 at 03:45:24. The pics at +- 9:00 am was too clouded to get anything. I am hoping the 3:00pm pics will clarify the situation better. NOAA has been saying this front was to hit 4 days ago and still nothing.

BUT the good news is that they are saying south wind for 5 days and even though south winds are not the best to fish in, it will definetly bring the warm water closer. So instead of green water hit and miss, we will be in the warm water slam.

Looking out the window, I cant see the beach only 150 yards away and the wind is blowing.
This morning there was not much swell, but I had some bump to it....just don't beat yourself up...it wasn't that great.
