Saturday, 8-24 BFB
Saturday, Kevin, Ray and I got out after BFB and albacore. Had battery trouble, and couldn't get the boat fired up. Not haveing a charger or quick start, we ran if for an hour or so on a hose bib to get a charge. Dropped her in fired it up and were underway around 7:30.
Got to the grounds in about an hour and ten, great water for the first 15 miles, and getting worse the rest of the way, but WAY better than any other BFB day that I have been out on yet.
Only about 20 boats joined us at the spot. The bite was slow, and it took us almost til noon to get our three flatttys from 39 to 46 inches and a bonus 15 pound ling. Something grabbed one of the flatties on the way up, leaving some big lacerations on it and making a blistering run about halfway. Must have been a shark, what else eats a 45" fish? We decided against running for albies, water was 58 and very green on the halibut grounds.
Instead we opted for the early return, I was back in portland for the 5:30 kickoff of Floriday State v. Iowa State. My alma mater held thier own against the number 3 team in the nation, the game decided by a touchdown with ISU missing by inches from the 1 yard line with 4 seconds left in the game. 23 point spread my ass.
So that's 21 flattys aboard the Threemuch II this year. Not bad. I bought a couple albacore on the way home, sad, I know. 50 pounds for 60 bucks, and got 48 1/2 pint cans and about 10 pounds of prime loin for grilling.
Still got one spot on my tag if they give us another day...

Did you guys have some kind of pool for heaviest fish? It looks like ray stuffed a downrigger ball down that BFB he's holding!

Re: Saturday, 8-24 BFB
No pool. And it's a funny story about who's fish is who's but it's not for public consumption. Let's just say there is a reason I am not in the picture.
Uglygreen, I am game for tuna anytime. My boat is range limited, due to being a gas hog, so I need tunny at around 30 miles to be in range. And you can have the next seat on my rig for flatties on the next open day, regardless of if we hook up for albies or not. Shoot me a call anytime you need crew 503.756.9078.
