My mom passed away this morning.
As some of you may know, my mother has been ill for a long while with cancer. This morning at 4:56 she finally let go with my dad right there holding her hand and supporting her with kind words. She had been doing good, but two days ago she just ran out of energy. We got her set up comfortably in her favorite chair and the whole family rallied around her until 10:45 that night when everyone said goodbye and my dad comforted her into the end. Just exactly how she wanted it. We were able to communicate until that time with few head nods, a few words on her part and a lot on mine. To see someone so incredible and who you love so much have to go like that is just a miserable experience. But you would never know it from her. Right up until she fell asleep for the last time see was still smiling at me doing her best to respond to everything I had to say.
Throughout this sickness she has been a trailblazer, testing all kinds of new cancer drugs no matter the risk and conveying everything she learned to as many people as possible. To everyone that knew her within this setting she is considered a hero.
Only 9% of all people with stage 4 cancer from the start make it 5 years. She made it for over 9.

Graphite, I'm very sorry to hear this.  She sounds like an amazing and very strong woman, and based on the link you provided, an inspiration to many!! I don't know if you're religious or not, but there's a scripture that always brings me comfort... we'll keep you and your family in our prayers.

My respects to you and your family. It will get better. I lost both my parents to cancer in the last few years and in some ways I am never really over it. I miss them both at times and so I have a little cry and just move on.
Memories of love have replaced their presence.

Very strong women indeed and a very caring family that obviously complimented her life. I'm involved in the relay for life for the first time this year and will keep your mother at the top of my thoughts.

I lost my dad about a year ago to it, and his loss has profoundly changed my life.

I'm very sorry to hear about your loss of your mom. It sounds like she was an amazing woman. I'm sure so many of those last days were absolute gifts.I hope you find peace knowing she is comfortable and not suffering any longer.
Having lost my mom in a similar way, I can say that the experience brought me closer to her, and my family. I hope it did for you.

GZ, my deepest condolences. I can empathize with you on every level. My mother-in-law, who passed away from cancer before her son and I were divorced, was an amazing woman and joked around right up until the end. She passed over ten years ago and I still can't speak of her without welling up. Although she was not my mother, she was just as special and I loved her just as much as my own.
My mother and paternal aunt are both breast cancer survivors, I thank goodness for that. I am not a religious person, but every time something good happens to me, I like to think that Juanita is up there watching over me and giving me a little extra push along the way.
It's hard being left behind by someone so special, and my heart goes out to you. It does get a little easier every day.

I lost my dad to cancer in 1988, I was 26 years old, he was 50. Not fun at all, hang in there, your mom sounds like she was a real stong lady.

GZ - My condolences to you and your family. My eyes watered, sitting here at work, while reading your post. I, too, lost my mother six years ago as her five year fight with cancer came to an end. Mom loved to fish. Dad is 84, still healthy and I'm launching the boat this weekend and taking him fishing while I still have him.

Man i am not far from your age and I cant imagine losing my mother. Very sorry for your loss. Your mom sounds like an unbelievable woman. Glad she was able to hold on and beat the odds and spend some additional time with you guys. I wish all the best to you and your family.

sorry for your loss. i know how it is. i lost my dad in 89 my mom in 04 an my wife in sept of 07 all to cancer. keep your chin up and smile when you can. it helps take away the hurt for a short time. good luck
