Default Church hole

Got out Saturday and fished the Church hole. About an hour line to put in at Hammond, and then lousy fishing, at least for us. We saw some nice fish caught and at the cleaning station, but for 8 hours of trolling, we wound up with 1 12 pound tule hen kept and one coho hen with an extra fin released.

I kept the tule, but don't think I will again. pale orange meat fading to yellow on the tail. The fish looked pretty good from the outside. I guess I can cut it up for crab and halibut bait.

Most of the chinook I saw at the cleaning station were tules. Not worth the launch line in my book, but if the ocean is too rough to fish...whatcha gonna do?

We had the same experience on Saturday. Showed up at Chinook on the Washington side about 6:00am and the line to put our boat in was backed up all the way down the main road in both directions. Took over an hour to launch. Started to go out and the fog was a little to thick so we waited another 20 minutes for it to clear. By the time we got to the Church hole there were over a thousand boats from the bridge down. Saw some fish caught but mostly Tules with color. We were 0 for 0. Hopefully next weekend will have more fish.

I saw a news report not long ago where they forcasted the chinook run and I was alittle amazed at the large numbers of tule that are expected. I caught a nice 25-30 pounder last week and waked my hand while cleaning it and got 3 stitches for me efforts. Got so mad at my own stupidity and the fact that the fish was a lowly tule that I chucked it in the garbage. It was a good fight though to bring it in. I guess I have to practice that catch and release thing.

Good luck.

Hey, T2T. I'm not sure but I think chucking that tule in the garbage is against the rules and not all that ethical anyways. I do my best to choke down any ghost rider I bonk for whatever reason I keep it for. Even if it's just for eggs...
