It figures!
As you know this is the last weekend for the spring all depth season. Conditions look like it might be decent enough to give it a try, but there is no way to get out of work. Happens every time.
Hopefully the there is a remaining quota to open the back-up dates of 26-28 JUN, 10-12, 24-26 JUL, or a long wait until August for the summer season.

I know how you feel. I've only been out 1 day and will not be able to get out this weekend. The good news is that with this weekends forecast and the price of fuel, we're likely to get at least 2 more weekends (backup dates) before we meet the quota.

Re: It figures!
There is still 55% of the quota left. There will be make up dates.

It doesn't look like it will be decent enough for me to fish. I can't go Thurs, and Fri while it looks possible at first, check the wind and swell direction. The low swells in the morning are from the SSW and the wind is from the NNE. Opposite directions, makes for a bouncy ocean. And then by noon Friday and Sat the swells are from the north with a very short period. I hope the forecast is wrong and that the conditions are good, but I'm not planning based on hope!

Re: It figures!
Forecast is getting ugly. You might as well stay in and make some more gas money.

The other train of thought is go now before it gets any more expensive.

Re: It figures!
Now worry - plenty of halibut fishing yet to come. All the remaining optional day's will open (pretty sure deal) and in the Fall you will likely be able to catch 2!

FYI, It was said at the last Halibut Meeting that we should not bank on 2 fish. We went over quota the last 2 times we did this and last year was by more than 20k lbs. Powers that be were not too happy.

I'll be at South Beach from the 1st to the 6th. I better fill up know before diesel tops $5.00! I will just have to find the "inshore" flatties and what if any of the remaining Coho.
