Animal Rights Law Passed in Switzerland

Catch and Release Fishing Banned
6/9/08

Switzerland has recently passed a law with the intention of clarifying acceptable treatment of “social animals.”

The law that goes into effect September first establishes desirable treatment of animals such as dogs, fish, horses, and even rhinoceroses. An array of animals has been included under the bracket of “social animals” and a part of this new law states that any of these animals will be considered abused if they are not able to cohabit with another of their species.

Under the law dog owners must take a two part course on recognizing the needs of the dog, and properly walking a dog. Swiss fisherman will now be required to participate in a course that teaches them how to catch fish humanely. Catch and Release fishing has been banned; instead fishers must now kill the fish immediately after being caught with “a sharp blow to the head with a blunt instrument.”

This law affects farmers as well, who are barred from restraining horses, sheep, and goats. Pigs and cows must not be forced to reside in areas with hard flooring.

Although animal rights groups are jumping for joy over this new law, many Swiss farmers are complaining of the numerous extra costs it will require them to run their farms.

OH boy!!! It won't be long before the farmers are out of business either...
Its hard to fathom but just like the gun laws in Australia and Great Britten these will become the new standards in the us.

So I wonder what restraints mean no fences or halters???

This will never pass here in the USA in the early 1900 around 41% of the people were farmers, now today less than 2%. I can't imagine the filth and disease this would cause, in feedlots of today! Maybe we could open more forest up for our livestock

That and higher prices are what they are hoping for......anything to promote the vegan movement.

There has been a bill introduced that if passed will have drastic affects on the farm community. Farmers will soon be required to house farm animals in a manner non-consistent with traditional farm practices.

Less animals per pen.

Sheltering will have to meet strict standards.

Where they have been on soft ground, they will have to be maintained on concrete or dry ground.

You will see you meat, milk, cheese, and other farm animal related food prices start to sore over the next 10 years. California is where it starts, but that is only the begining.

Perhaps we'll luck out and the next law they pass will be "no more love making" then in about 40 years, we wont have too many of them left to deal with.

I wonder what their stance is on Ants is..

I mean, there is not a more sociable creature out there.

What scares me is allot of people think these laws are a joke but before they know it is real. These rules are designed around one thing and that is to make you all vegetarians. What you have is a small vocal group make decisions for all of us because they think they know what is best for us. Sounds like communism to me. Plus it is the PC way now. They don't care one little bit about farmers making a living or the impact on the rest of the world.

It is called the Farm Animal Cruelty Act. It will be on the ballot in California this fall. One of the main issues is egg laying chickens. The antis are trying to make it so the chickens have more "personal space" and are not so crowded. In doing so, they are predicting egg prices will soar to roughly 6 dollars, or more per dozen in order for chicken growers to comply properly. Think about that.....not only will the average person's grocery bill be increased, but then the tax payer gets hit again because eggs and meat get used in prisons, schools, hospitals etc. This is just another attempt to force the Vegan movement on America.
P.M me and I will send you a link to an intersting website.....

To assume such a law could or could not pass here in the U.S. is just that, assumption.

If you are a hunter and such a law would negatively affect you, the prudent strategy would be to prepare for the worst in order to come out the best against those who work to defeat you. The equation is simple:

United Front + Individual Activism + Savvy Representation = Hunters WIN

Division In The Rank n File + Apathy + Inadequate Representaion = Hunters LOSE

Assuming "couldn't happen here" is courting famous last words.

hmm, sounds just the opposite of switzerland. Is that a different proposition?

I know CA is experimenting with impermeable flooring for cattle as a way to reduce polluted runoff and capture it for methane collection/energy production at one facility (sounded like a more profitable system.. but must be something different)
