Default Neah Bay Halibut

Hi
If i wanted to fish neah bay with at the garbage dump would you in 19 ft fiberglass boat with a closed bow?

I've never had it in the ocean but I did use it at the mouth of Buoy 10
with my dad and never had any problems ( the water was 10 times rougher than we had ever seen in puget sound)

Its a old 1965 sabrecraft hardtop fiberglass boat totally sea worthy even though its old.

The engines are fine plenty of power and totally reliable no worrys there.

I was thinking of going on the June 21st re opening.

Any thoughts? I really really want to get me and my son our first halibut.

Any vital hints or tips are greatly appreciated.

Mark

You can do very well a mile and a half seaward of island waddah in 280 feet of water. I fish this area and and do very well there.
I fish this area in a 19' Alumaweld. You will see me there in a week.
Good fishing!

Lots of snaggy things like rocks at the dump but some big fish. No problem with your boat! Just watch the tides. Slack is a good time at the dump!

I've fished the dump in a 16ft center console this time of year. You'll have no problems... BRING LOTS OF GEAR!!

Watching it for this Saturday want to hit the all depth for a quadfecta. Halibut/Lings and Kings at 72 Square or Bluedot followed by limits of Bass. Had the boat crew and did not know it. They actually talked me into it not vice versa.

Watching the weather. You going Tracker? The way it seems to be laying down this week has me hopefull I can make a call on Wednesday or Thursday it is a go. If not there is the next weekend. Hopefully the Chinook Quota does not run out.

Sorry never answered the OP's question.

Why limit yourself to the dump? Right on the outside there are some decent spots. Swiftsure is only 13 miles from Tatoosh. Your boat is more than capable for there. Poke outside a bit after watching the weather. If I can do it you can a little. Just look for the sea state. Typically if it is unfishable on the outside the inside is also a beating. Sometimes the inside can be a little worse than a little ways out. The C-Closure where Tracker and I fished last time was 88 miles of running for me Sea Bassing it on the rocks all the way up. In my boat that was 22 gallons of gas. We had a chop with almost no swell and it came up a little with the tide but was fairly nice.

The garbage dump is just west of wadda isl. If you look up on the hill there you will normally see some smoke rising from the burning of the trash. Get in about 300' of water out from there and you have arrived.
