Can crabs move pots.???
I am not sure if I was getting lied to or not, but a guy was telling me that it wasn't the 16 ft swells that moved my pots 150yards. He said after a few days crabs get bored sitting in the pots and actually pick the web up with their claws and stick their legs thru the bottom and will move pots.
I knew crabs were real smart, but this surprises me.
I just thought you guys might want to know what took your pots.

Maybe if your crabbing near Hanford!
That sounds like a story Roy would tell his "talking rod holders"
Did Bernie tell you that while he was wearing his tinfoil hat.
So in the pot it might sound like this:
"All right right you guys, on three, ready....one....two......... I said three you moron.....put down that bait and listen up ......... ready ........ one ... two ....... oh I give up, if we can get this trap to that Marine Reserve, were safe. Now once more, ..... one"

Re: Can crabs move pots.???
I know where some of them went. Last Tuesday we were heading out on the "Misty" to do some groundfish research work just at low tide. Just inside of and North of the number 7 can there were about a dozen sport crab buoys all in a big tangle. Who knows how many others were there with buoys gone or still below the surface. There must be something there that they hang up on as they make their way in or out with big tidal currents. Maybe this would be a good salvage opportunity for someone. We were not close enough to see if any of the buoys had owner identification but assume at least some would. Amazing what things look like with nearly a minus 3' tide.

Re: Can crabs move pots.???
Thanks for clearing that up for me. I don't care what anyone says, you guys are pretty smart.
I notices Robs crabs packed one of his pots with the red, white and blue bouys into the rocks at the end of the north jetty. It must be full of red rock crabs.

Re: Can crabs move pots.???
Maybe they can move those real light folding ones. They need chalk on their claws to move the heavier ones.

Re: Can crabs move pots.???
Probably the same Superbreed ones that enter your trap, clean out your Bait cage, & leave with no trace, & now there teasing you by moving your traps.

Re: Can crabs move pots.???
Laugh now... when UW releases their robotic, talking, cooperative salmon into the wild we're going to see some strange things indeed:
http://uwnews.org/uweek/uweekarticle...rticleID=42313
It is only a matter of time before cooperative crab are developed.

Re: Can crabs move pots.???
And again I say...the ocean better lay down, the temperatures need to rise and the wind needs to ease...cuz an entire thread dedicated to crabs moving their own pots is a sign of too much time and too little fishing!
