Default ODFW News: All Depth Halibut

For Immediate Release August 8, 2002

All Depth Halibut Season to Open Aug. 23-24

Central Oregon Coast To Re-Open for All-Depth Halibut Fishing

Fishery managers announced Thursday that sufficient poundage remains on the allowed halibut quota to re-open the sport halibut fishery at all depths between Cape Falcon and Humbug Mountain Friday, Aug. 23, and Saturday, Aug. 24.

The sport halibut fishery between Cape Falcon and Humbug Mountain remains open seven days a week in areas inside the 30-fathom curve. Halibut fishing also is allowed south of Humbug Mountain seven days a week at all depths.

The halibut fishery north of Cape Falcon closed in May because the quota was met.

Additional information on bag limits and gear restrictions can be found in the 2002 Oregon Ocean Salmon and Halibut Sport Fishing Regulations.

Hey Pete, how's the Ocean treating you lately? I'm tagged out on the flat ones.

Am I imagining it or are we getting a lot more Halibut days this year?

Is this the last meal for the condemned prisoners, uh fishers? Maybe no Halibut next year so get em this year?

I think the novices on the Louie-Louie may go out one more time, maybe two... because we have a lot more line items to fill out...

I hope the weather is as pleasant on our next trip, as it was the last time.

I am probably in for one day, maybe keep going out for tuna if conditions allow. If it's really nice weather I may do two.
