Default Take this job and...

Restaff it!

I have secured new employment and gave notice at my current gig today. New technology (to me), fun stuff to learn, a few old colleagues to reaquaint myself with. Woo hoo!

I am leaving the world of charged particle microscopy for the world of lasers and optics. The key for me was stability. Lasers are used in so many different things, the demand is quite stable.

The weird part is that I have fantasized about quitting the job I have now many many times, but it just isn't nearly as fun as I had imagined. I guess after 8 years, my ties to this place are stronger than I thought.

Dude! DUDE!

See if you can get me some FREAKING SHARKS... WITH FREAKING LASERS ON THEIR HEADS!! Seriously?? It it seriously this hard to get some SHARKS WITH LASERS ON THEIR HEADS?!

All "Austin Powering" aside, sounds like a very cool job. Being a science guy myself, some of my favorite studies were lasers and optics.

I would like to take a wild guess that you left FEI and went to ESI?

In any event - Big congrats on your new, greener pastures - life is good.

Also, one day you may want to use your last employer as a professional reference - I recommend leaving with grace, dignity, and no ill will toward your soon to be past colleagues & bosses. If not for that, then do it for the good of kharma.

Again - big congrats on following your dreams.

Half right. Leaving FEI. In a couple weeks anyway. They have treated me pretty well most of the time, I don't have too much to complain about.

It's definitely a wierd set of emotions. Excitement and uncertainty about the new job, a bit of regret and sadness about the old one. There are too many people at FEI that I care about here to burn any bridges.

*******' sharks with *******' laser beams attached to their *******' heads are all part of the plan to get back into Dr. Evil's good graces. No more ill tempered mutant sea bass.

FEI has been through a lot over the years - many highs and lows, but still managed to keep turnover down, which is pretty amazing.

Reinier W. in Software and Jasmine J. in HR were clients of mine - They are quality - They shaped my impression of the FEI as a great company with great people. I know what it's like to leave a place that feels like family.

I believe FEI stands for Field Emission/Ion - at least "FE" part stands for "Field Emmission"

www.fei.com

ESI stands for Electro Scientific Industries

www.elcsci.com/esi/

Both are high-tech companies that have been here in the Beaverton/Hillsboro area for years. Although they are not competitors and have diverse product offerings, both make capital equipment for the semiconductor process industry
