Hedin\' to Zihuat, "Hasta La Vista!"
The weather has settled down in Zihuatanejo.
Forecast for mostly sunny and 85-88 degree highs and lows 67-70 degrees with light to calm winds for the next week.
Here's the most recent fishing report:
Numbers and notable catches for the month are as follows. These vessels fished a total of 166 days landing 367 Sailfish, 13 Blue Marlin, 1 Black Marlin, 56 Dorado, 3 Wahoo, 7 Tuna and 10 Roosterfish. Only Tuna in excess of 250#, and Dorado, Wahoo and Roosterfish in excess of 20# are reported. Captain Raymundo Wences of the "El Soltar" reported hooking a monster BLACK MARLIN, estimated to exceed 800# on February 7th. The huge MARLIN spooled a Penn International 80SW and Captain Wences found it necessary to attach another rod and reel and put the first rod and reel over the side. After 1 1/2 hours the crew was able to retrieve the first rod and reel and began fighting the huge MARLIN again. Another hour went by before the fish broke the line in a series of spectacular jumps. Last week Captain Alfredo Vargas on the "Whisky I" landed a Blue Marlin in excess of 500#. Captain Alberto Hernandez of the "Intruza" released 5 Blue Marlin in one day fishing at 28 miles. Both Captain Javier of the "Marlin Azul" and Captain Luis of the "Gringo Loco" landed Yellowfin over 300#. Angler Ron Peschon fishing with Captain Cortes of the "Aguazul" for 4 days averaged 5.6 Sails per day. Many boats reported 5-7 Sails on given days.
Bear in mind this is about 12 boats worth of reports. Pretty small fleet.
7 yellowfin tuna over 250# they don't even report the smaller ones. Got my big game gear rigged (thanks to James!) Looking for that Ahi over 100#.
I'm sure "Big Shad Brad" will be sending reports.
Enjoy the local weather while we're gone!!
Hasta La Vista Baby!!

Re: Hedin\' to Zihuat, "Hasta La Vista!"
Sounds a heck of a lot more fun than Washington DC, where I am going for the next week.
That sounds like some fantastice fishing!
Question for you. Is Big Shad going for an all-tackle record on line caught glofish while he is there? I heard he caught a 13oz smelt the other day.
Have fun!

Re: Hedin\' to Zihuat, "Hasta La Vista!"
Here is a picture of the pending All Tackle world record Roosterfish caught in Zihwatanejo a couple months ago. I plan on getting me a bigger one Hogmaster. Of course the AUP wont allow me to elaborate on what your probably going to catch in DC...

Re: Hedin\' to Zihuat, "Hasta La Vista!"
Hey Bruce,
Sounds like reports are looking mighty encouraging.....Don't know about that tackle you have though. I think there was a couple of knots in that Tiagra, down about 100 yds or so..You.ll find em,,,,,just kidding...Don't think there's any braided line on it for backing so if you hook a good one and you start getting spooled, push that drag lever all the way up and hope for the best..I think there was only 60 lb on it,,or was it 80,,anyway hope you get to use it..You guys have live bait by chance?? Get your roosterfish cravings outta the way then go get some Yellerfins...Them Trinidads should do nicely too..If they blow up on you, just chuck em over the side,,don't want to have that cheap stuff around...That five and a half ft broomstick also doubles as a spear or gaff if need be...You have a sissy belt too right?? Good luck and have a great trip.........

Envy is making me ill. Perhaps a little rehab in a warm place.

Jennie,
We need a graemlin that is crying.
We need another one that is green with envy.
I guess I'll just have to settle with this one:
Go, me amigos. Have fun and send us back many reports! I'm part of the cleanup crew heading down over spring break, and we need all the information we can get.

Re: Hedin\' to Zihuat, "Hasta La Vista!"
Hey Les, The Tiagra 2 speed is spooled with 80 to the bone. Did you catch the black marlin story above where they had to do the tie on and chuck over trick? Can't imagine doin that to James' gear but who knows.
Gary, was that Bull in Cabo? Nice one!
Skein, we'll try not to sore mouth all the sails
Wish everybody could go! (kinda) I'm sure Big Shad will have the pictorial reports flowin.
