Urban Coyotes?
I thought that it might be interesting to see where everyone was spotting yotes close in to the city?
I was on the way home from a friends house tonight and saw 4 coyotes on Stark street between 202nd and 210th. The first one that I saw was really big and it disappeared into the empty lot across from Ricks Fencing on 202 and Stark.
The others were a few blocks up just a few seconds later. They were all headed the same direction and they were all in a big hurry!
I have seen a few on the east end of Gresham lately and 1 around 181st an Sandy, Several closer in by the airport and a couple right by Fishermans Marine @ Delta Park (no leash dog park dont ya know )
So where is your most urban sighting?

We have a pack in Gabrial Park in SW as well as some near or on the Portland Golf Club. Yotes got the neighbor's "kickin" dog just last week.

Re: Urban Coyotes?
The last one I saw was in my front yard in Cedar Mill, west of Portland. He was starring up at our cat on the front porch while the cat was "frozen" to the ground. I sure wish I owned a .17 pellet gun! My AR just might have upset the neighbors and riled up the local Washington County Sheriff!! Lol!

There's a TON in Happy Valley...just enough forest to hide and a TON of cats to take out.

Re: Urban Coyotes?
Hmmm cats..... I wonder if I would get in trouble for telling my neighbors there were coyotes in the area when there really wasn't? Maybe that would get them to keep the critters in their own yards.

Yea, I know there is a ton here, but that was the first time in a while that I have seen one in the middle of the day. We hear them almost every night though. I'd be happy if they took out more cats!
Happy Valley should really be called Kitty cat Valley. I'm tired of it. we have 2 cats that like live in our yard 50% or their time. You guys won't mind if I put my BB gun to use, will you?

I've been entertaining the idea of buying a bow for use with urban 'yotes. Without any admissions of guilt, are any of you guys using bows or crossbows to help protect the domestic dog and cat populations in these urban areas affected by 'yotes?

Oh, I've seen a few along the freeway near Woodburn, and one nipped the neighbor's German Shepherd a month or so ago while it was in its own backyard.

I saw one last year in Hillsboro south of Cornell (about 1 mile southwest of the airport) between 2 housing developments. I think he was using a greenspace as a travel path.

Re: Urban Coyotes?
Guys and Gals,
Please be careful with pellet guns if you live within city limits. In Hillsboro, for example, its considered a "firearm" and discharging one is a crime. I think its the most ridiculous law I have heard of, but its still the law. Just don't want to seen an iFisher go to jail for shooting a pellet gun.
How are the little kids supposed to learn to shoot and learn gun safety without being able to shoot in the backyard?
Anyway, they are no laws against discharging a bow in city limits as far as I know (hint, hint). You just can't 'hunt' within city limits. I have no problem dispatching feral dogs, cats, or coyotes if they are a nuisance.
Protection of person, property, or family is exempt from those laws.

I asked it is illegal to shoot a bow in the city limits unless it is shot at ranges made for archery. And it does not include your back yard even if you have a sturdy backdrop of fence. I think it is ridiculous but that is the way it was written apparently.

Hwy 224 and Rusk Rd in Milwaukie. There is a den in the field behind the church. Now I wish they would come eat my neighbors cats.

Re: Urban Coyotes?
I've seen them under the 84 bridge at 181st. And in Vancouver I saw three of them run across the Safeway parking lot at 112th and Burton. My kid and I saw a bobcat not far from green mountain golf course.

Re: Urban Coyotes?
I saw two about a week ago cross Andresen Road on the hill going towards the woods of David Douglas Park. It was about dusk and at first I only saw one which looked like a normal dog until I got closer. Then the second ran from the brush following it.

Re: Urban Coyotes?
I thought about this thread and finally took these pictures of my brother's (now my) pickup. A while before Chris passed away, he was driving past Shute Park (Hillsboro) in the wee hours of the morning and a coyote ran into the side of the truck. Now, the sheet metal is no thicker in that area but, the way it's formed makes that quite a strong structural area - - - Yes, the coyote got up and ran off - - - I'm betting he still has a headache . Re: Urban Coyotes?
i used to see them around 207th and Halsey all the time on my way to work. There is a greenspace near that area, as well as a healthy rabbit population. Most recent "urban" sighting would probably be at SR 500 and I205 in vancouver. Saw a monster in the field where the off ramp is.

Interesting stuff! I remeber reading an article in OUTDOOR LIVE years ago about this problem, and they had even found them in Central Park In NY city! We have them in creswell now. Wish they would work on the raccoon and cat populations!

Re: Urban Coyotes?
I grew up on 197th in Aloha by Baseline. Around 1995 I took 6 coyotes from behind the house. I can remember before I thinned them out that. I would be sitting in the living room having my coffee and the darn things would be trotting down the road. They sure cleaned the cats up around the neighborhood. I think I got all of them but the Alpha female. Thats a shame too. If you don't get her she just starts having them again.

Just my
I see some/many every week. I thought cougers liked to eat them...........Where are the cougs But wait, there's more: Cougars eat more than coyotes.

We have 3 of them that live in the green space right next to our house. When their was snow on the ground you could see thru the greenspace a lot better and we would sit upstairs and watch them run around.
