Default Relocate Halbicore to Garibaldi?

We are looking at moving up to Garibaldi for halbacore for this weekend. SSTs show cold water over newport, warmer up by t-bay. Tides are small so the bar shouldn't be bad. Weather calls for big afternoon wind, south of newport. All signs point to staying north.

Just an FYI if you don't see me down in Newport.

Kurt, I hope you're right about improving weather off of Tillamook. I'd like to try for albacore after halibut fishing in the morning on Friday, or maybe Saturday with no more than 15 knot winds with 8 foots seas with a long 8 second period. and we only have 2 more weeks of ocean crabbing !! I'll be going into cholesterol withdrawls soon...

I will be out of Garibaldi on Friday and Maybe saturday as well. Friday aboard The Sundance. I don't know if the skipper monitors channel 77, but I'll see if we can . The Sundance is a Sea Sport . You should see us out there. I think we are going for Albies as well. The report he got from a commercial friend said the Hali's were scarce a few weeks ago. They only got three fish for 2 days. If we don't get into them by 07:30 , it's out to Tuna Town. Tight Lines ,Hope to see ya on the Big Blue, Tom

Bad news about the halibut, we will probably give them a longer go than that. A couple weeks is a pretty long time, and they sure were there during the last open recreational days.

How do the commercials fish em out there? Longline?

Do any of you have a contour chart of deeper waters west of the halibut grounds ??

My brother from Hawaii, aAan, which fishes yellowfin tuna says that in addition to water temperature, bird piles, and debris lines... he's noticed over the years that fish will collect over steep changes in the water depths. I would speculate that upwelling waters may bring nutruient rich waters, bait fish, and game fish....

CraigC
You can look at charts online at http://www.4seatow.com/charts.asp

I checked out the charts, and Tuna are attracted to upwellings caused by seamounts. Some places I want to check out are:

45 36
125 12

45 47
125 02

45 47
124 49

45 27
124 46

Good luck. Call us if you are out there.

Craigc,
Next time you're in Newport, stop by. I have Nobeltec Visual Nav Suite on my onboard computer. It has 3D Bathy capability which shows the bottom in 3D shot from sattelite imagery. It's pretty awesome! I'm on the end of "C" dock in South Beach... Julie Rose III
