Default Hood Canal Shrimp One More Day

Well looks like Puffin was right and they are extending it one more day. Fuel prices must really have participation down.

Hope they give us another Halibut day at Neah and La Push then.

FISHING RULE CHANGE
WASHINGTON DEPARTMENT OF FISH AND WILDLIFE
600 Capitol Way North, Olympia, WA 98501-1091

June 3, 2008

Hood Canal sport shrimp season extended one final day, June 11

Action: Sufficient quota remains in Hood Canal to extend the shrimp season one final day between the hours of 9 a.m. and 1 p.m. on June 11.
Effective dates: 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Wednesday, June 11, 2008.
Species affected: All shrimp.
Location: All waters of the Hood Canal (Marine Area 12).
Reason for action: Sufficient quota remains in Hood Canal to warrant extending the shrimp season for one weekday.
Other information: The Hood Canal shrimp district will be reopened to recreational fishing for a ninth day because sufficient quota remains to warrant a one-day opener. A general reduction in overall effort contributed to a lower harvest of spot shrimp in the canal than expected.

Damn; not sure I can make this mid-week date -- limited out the last couple of times we went out there so the freezer is still full, but there is always room for more

hardly has been anyone out there the last few times we have gone out compared to early in the season.

I was out on Saturday and the pressure was very light in comparsion to previous trips to the Canal. I got my limits (just 2 of us on the boat) but we did have to work for them. I was up in Dabob Bay and my best pulls were off the point as you enter Quilcene Bay.

Good luck!

What kind of boat are you launching? Some of the ramps are nice, some are iffy and some are crap. A big boat limits you somewhat.

Wish it was a Saturday or actually any day other than Wednesday. Still have some in the freezer but I don't think it is possible to have too many of these goodies

RUH ROH... i freaking knew they would do this. Damn them! I put all my stuff away last night and was thinking as i did it that they would re-open it.
Oh well... guess I'll have to partake in the festivities once again.

Jason- The shrimp are still there although the size was much better in the 170-190 range.

I was asking about launches as I have never been to hood canal...My 16' sled will not be shrimping.

I was just curious if an open seat were to arrise how much to budget for the trip and expenses.

I am still WAITING on TUNA!

Your sled could shrimp no problem...
There is a launch at Salsbury at the north end which is good for bigger boats.
Senic Beach which is a shallow water launch and no good at low tide.
I dont know anything about the launches around Hoodsport.

There is a public park just south of Hoodsport and north of Potlatch that has a decent ramp - just make sure you launch before low tide as the ramp has a good pile of gravel behind it.

I just had some of those prawns for lunch - sauteed a couple dozen in butter and garlic and a dash of lemon pepper - oh my that was good

Twanoh (spelling?) has a decent launch just a couple 10 miles outside belfair before you get to hoodsport also.

I alunch a 20 Seahawk at Scenic Beach no problems but you have to be willing to get your truck wet sometimes.

I don't now know if I am going to be able to get off work or yet now.

I'm working tonight but thinking about running up and hopping in a friends boat to make a pull.

Fshklr, I've fished out of a 16' skiff at the Pleasant Harbor DFW ramp; it can be done. Basicly the SW land orientation channels the blow out away from the bay.

The weather forecast looks okay, not great:

We didn't go. My ride ended up working yesterday.

Guess I'll have to wait until next year to do it again.

Man it was beautiful out. Gray skys, calm water and plenty of shrimp.
We packed 6 people into my 17' grady and had our limits after our second run through the pots. The size was getting progressively smaller it seemed over the last few openings but we managed to find some decent tails.
Had them last night on the grill and they sure were good
also went cutthroat fishing on the way back to the launch and found some really nice fish so that was fun too
