Default A big thank you to Pilar!

I wanted to make sure and thank Pilar for all of the information & knowledge he continuously shares with the rest of us I-Fishers.
Last Wednesday three amateurs went out of Depoe Bay in search of Albacore. We were loaded with leaders and handlines that we made based on Pilar's excellent idiot proof instructions. We set the GPS on the coordinates to Tuna Town, also supplied by Pilar. And we proceeded to catch, bleed and ice 19 Albacore!
We then headed back in getting through the bar at Depoe on empty!  After cleaning my seventh tuna I swore I would never go Albacore fishing again! After barbcuing some Thursday Night I can't wait to go again! What a blast! And what a great tasting fish!
This was a trip I will always remember - thanks to Pilar and his willingness to help us amateurs!
Much Thanks John!
,Ed

Hi Ed, I curious to know what water temperatures where you were catching tuna ?? I expect the waters should be above 60F.

I was at Garibaldi this weekend and they are bringing in fresh tuna, so I guess you can get the tuna out of Garibaldi. Lou and I hope to go out for tuna after fishing for halibut... or may troll back home for salmon.... any other clues to look for ??? I hope we have flat weather this weekend..... thanks, Craig

Hey craig,
We got a couple in 61.5 degrees, but we got into them heavy when the water got over 62 degrees, that was at about 42 miles.

Hey Craig, jsut like Sturgn said. We picked some up at about 30 miles in the cooler water, but most of them were around 40 miles in the 61.5 to 62+ degree water. Sturgn was the captain.

Hi guys ...

Knowledge is a powerful thing. Share what you know ... I try to do that every chance I get. Teaching people is it's own reward.

You are all so welcome. Please be careful with your new knowledge and be safe on big blue.

I love the look in a new Tuna fishers eyes when the reel goes supersonic!

'member that Krystalflash? 'What does a bite look like, John?'

"WHACK! .... WHhhhheheeeeeeeeeee!"

"Like that dude!, pick up your rod and reel, REEL, REEL!"

Ba ha ha hah ah aha ha!

I remember the halibut hole off of Tillamook was something like 25 miles offshore..... 40 miles... that seems like a long way out.... I think we used from a quarter to about a third of our fuel capacity on our 25 mile trip for halibut... going 40 miles seems like we may be going over our self limits of reasonable safety... I'll need to check with Lou on what he remembers, because he paid closer attention to the gas situation while I focusing on my cookies.... any opinions on this topic....
