Default Update - ODFW Mtgs - 2003 groundfish

August 9th - Commissioners meeting in Corvallis. Findings from the first of the public meetings will be presented.

Public meetings:
August 6th - Cancelled

ODFW got feedback that there was displeasure about commercial/recreational 'segregation' (which was not really the intent) and they heard us say that we can't typically make it to meetings during the business day. So they moved some of the meetings that were originally scheduled during the day in order to accommodate recreational fishers. You see, we're being heard.

NOTE: Public is welcome to attend both sessions each day

Written comments on the options will also be considered. They should be mailed by September 1 to the Pacific Fishery Management Council, 7700 NE Ambassador Place, Suite 200, Portland, OR 97220-1384.

Meeting schedule below.

Additionally, at the August 9 meeting, they will be discussing nearshore management options & blessing the folks who will represent sport fishers on the DFB.

Again, I plead: everyone get to the meetings they can get to. One or two days away from fishing can ensure a lifetime of fishing.

So it looks like the Newport or Astoria meeting for me. Lately my employer is requiring long absences from home waters. I will commit to one day or the other as soon as I know my availability.

How about you? When can you go?

We've got to stay in the game!

This is a long term deal. If you can attend any meetings by any means, please do. ODFW and the other powers that be welcome our attendance and critical thinking.

We only have to get a few people to each meeting to be heard and to have access to the process of regulating the nearshore fishery.

Please post here for your meeting availability and I am thanking you in advance.

Corvallis on the 9th is where the public input at the previous will be discussed/reported. The Newport meeting on the 6th was the one that was cancelled. There is a meeting on the 5th in Newport.

Please attend the meeting on the 5th in Newport or the 9th, in Corvallis. All of the ODFW commisioners will be there at Corvallis on the 9th.

Deepsleeper/Sturgn: I'm trying to obtain the info on the Commissioners meeting in Corvallis. I'm assuming it will be held at the ODFW offices there, but want to verify.

The meeting begins at 8am. It looks like the agenda item of interest will be in the afternoon. However, I will post the most optimal time to be there.

Hang tight.

August 9 Commission the Ramada / O'Callahan's, 1550 9th St.

Directions (thanks to Mark Mc!)

Directions to Aug 9 ODFW Commission meeting in Corvallis:
From I-5, take hwy 34 (Tangent exit) west to Corvallis. Stay in the right
lane, continue straight into town, over the bridge (do not take the bypass).
This puts you on Harrison. The cross streets are numbered. Stay in the right
lane, and continue west on Harrison to 9th St. Turn right on 9th, going
north. Go one mile; the Ramada will be on the left (west) side. Cross street
is Garfield.

Stay tuned for more info.

The 9th is drawing near, and I will attend the Corvallis meeting. Does it still look like 1:00 pm is the time to show up?

Also, can someone repost the link to the PMFC offshore plan?
