Re: Tuna 7/24
Sturgn,
Did you happen to see Corrirod when leaving this morning or some time during the day? He runs a 21' trophy w/ a radar tower and a Johnson kicker.
I've been out with him 3 times and he always calls home and checks in when we get in.
His wife just called and said they left at 3 this am to go Tuna fishing and he hasn't checked in yet.
I'm hopeing that he forgot to charge his cell phone and is still cleaning fish.
If you know anything, post it and I'll give her a call.
Thanks

Re: Tuna 7/24
Jsail, we saw Corrirod this morning. We left the fish cleaning station about 5:30. I didn't see him there. Marty and ugly green machine went out too. They might know something.

Re: Tuna 7/24
The old man (my dad) went after them today also down here. They went 34 miles out and ended up with 4 fish. Water temp was down and has moved somewhere away from Charleston. There were boats all the way out to 43 miles that I know of and not much action. When I was taking some guys out from work last night to get a quick limit of salmon I heard on the radio someone picked up two tuna at the whistler buoy (about a mile off of the mouth). So on my way out I quickly went to investigate only to have to squash this man's dreams by telling him he had mackeral. Oh well, the salmon fishing is still good. 6 fish in an hour and a half. 3 chinookees.

Re: Tuna 7/24
We made it. Thanks for the concern and yes it was exactly that, I didn't get the cell phone charged and when I used the payphone to call, my wife was on the internet so I couldn't get through.
That was a long day and I figured out that I suck at catching tuna! Dropped the lines for the first time at 30 miles out and immediately had a double. Proceeded to troll around for another 3-hours for 1 more fish. Meanwhile the rest of the Ifish crew were slaying them at Tuna town! Once I found them on the radio again we headed to tuna town and trolled another couple hours but only picked up 1. I must be doing something wrong.
We trolled our way back to the 32 mile area and then made our way back. Stopped about a mile off Depoe and threw the salmon gear in and got 1 nook and 1 coho. Couldn't have asked for a better ocean to travel on though, it was beautiful.
Now I need to sleep for the next 3 days just to recover from the last 2 days of fishing!!

Re: Tuna 7/24
Yeah we saw them( Sorry for the late reply) I thought you guys where all over them we heard the "fish on" come accross the radio, oh well next time you'll get em. I have one thing to say 42 miles is a damn long run! I'm sore today from it all, and I cant wait till the next run out there.
Maybe next time we should all swap some cell phone numbers just in case??

Re: Tuna 7/24
You were seeing porposes (or however you spell that) last night. They're feeding on the salmon also. Usually it's a good sign that they're around, it means the fish are too. A mackeral is a mini-me of the tuna species. It weighs a couple of pounds. Not real good to eat because of how oily they are, but awsome for crab bait. Next month you might see more of them but they usually hang out around the 8-10 mile range offshore. Not uncommon to catch one once in a while though.
If you want the hogs you'll have to troll under the small ones typically. That means downriggers!! I know you've been itching to buy one. The wife should understand now that she's caught a nookie why it's so important.
