Default Splicing downrigger cable

I'm going to add another roll of cable to my manual cannon downriggers to get more cable retrieve per revolution and want to know the best way to do so. I've read that the Albright knot is the knot of choice because it will pass thru the roller if I happen to reach that point. Are there other alternatives to achieve the objective? Any tips and/or suggestions would be helpfull.

Tell you what, I never knew that splicing downrigger cable was acceptable. I always thought if you wanted longer cable, buy a longer continuous roll. Personaly, I'd never really trust a splice. How long of a cable are you looking for? Try the link below for a few options.

Think the prices are Canadian.

best of luck,

I would attach the two cables using a crimper, the same way you crimp your weight clips on. I would say with 4 crimps you could trust the entegrity more than you could trust the line itself. I constantly have to keep cutting my downrigger cable because of cuts and nicks and I've never had a crimp slip or break.

Mr. Waiteman,

Anyone ever mention your picture bears a strong resemblance to one, D. B. Cooper... without the shades?

Glad to know you made it and that you're a fisherman.
