I think your variable on the ocean will account for a lot of that. The manufacturer will test the boat on a flat lake somewhere and run it at a low rpm to get that amount. Throw in going over waves, changing speeds constantly, weather and wind and it will change considerably. A lot of them do this without the top up also, so there is less wind resistance = better performance.

I have the 5.7 and the Kodiak pump and have the same "Q" regarding fuel consumption. The boat has a 80 gallon tank.

Has anybody ever bought the dry land starting kit? It sure would be nice to be able to start the boat dry, Oil changes.

I caled KEM the makers of Kodiak and they charge 180 clams for the kit, I really would like to see one and try to take the cheap route and make one.

I used to have a Weldcraft with the AT pump and it will run dry no problem. So I would like to find a solution.

Tailchaser,

Thanks for the info. I will give Port Orford a shot.

As for the fuel consuption. I have a 5.7 liter throttle body injection with a H212. In the ocean I get right around 2 miles to the gallon but do a lot better in the lakes and rivers. Never have paid to much attention to gas mileage though. A must have in the ocean is a gallons per hour gauge. Don't trust your fuel gauge.

Default Big Blue Southern Oregon

I am heading over to Gold Beach on 7/22/02 for a week and a half and would like to get some bottom/salmon fishing in. Is there anyone who can tell what's going on. (GPS coordinates?)

I have open seats if anyone wants to tag along.

I fish in a 21' ThunderJet. I have a GPS and VHF and all my equipment is in good working order.

Thanks,

Thunderstruck

Just a "Q" What model of Thunderjet doyou have.

I just bought a 21' Alexis Super Sport 1/2 hard top and really like it. I have had it out on the Columbia when the rollers are taller than the Transom of the boat.

Ocean?

Jet,

I have a 2001 21' Alexis Super Sport with a soft top. I have been in the Columbia many times when my butt started to pucker but she always handled it well.

Last year I had her on the ocean probably 30 times and never felt like I was in trouble. Even made a 25 mile run off the west coast of Vancouver Island, BC granted it was a flat day but she did awesome. You just have to go slow or you will keep bottoming out your air rides.

If you're heading to the rogue, most of your adventure for salmon shouldn't be much further than the jetties. Right now is a geat time in the bay and it's only getting better. No coordinates are needed for that. Just look at where everyone else is fishing.

As of the bottomfishing I have one thing to say. Go to Port Orford!!! It's a mere 20 min North on HWY 101 and you'll never regret the decision. The area is untapped when it comes to bottomfishing. You sling in your boat for 20 bucks and you can fish south towards the rock outcroppings when it's rough or go 7 miles to the NW and the big rock island out there is nothing short of spectacular. It's also only 19 miles from the halibut hole and that opens again on the 2nd. I have coordinates for that if you wanted them. Man I wish I was spending a week and a half down there this time of year. :depressed:

There are some reefs directly out from Gold Beach but be careful. Some of it is in a marine sanctuary and is off limits!! Save the time and worry and go North my friend.

I realize this isn't a Thunderjet thread, but I just got to get in on this. I've got a 2001 21' Alexis pro sport with the fixed frame top. Love the boat. Can't beat the fixed frame top when it gets rough in the Ocean. Gotta have something to hang on to.

It's got a 5.7L vortec. Any idea on the fuel consumption?

I took it to the rockpile a couple times and I seem to be getting what the manufacture said, which is 7.5 gal/hour. Given the distance to the rockpile and back it looks to be about 2.25 miles/gal. Does this seem consistent to what you’re getting?

The bottom fishign out of bandon is picking up... Some guys I know caught around 40 blacks last night in a 3 hr period...... If you come this way I can tell you/show you where to go........

And I would be leary about slinging your boat in. I have seen one dropped because the slings weren't set right.... I won't sling mine in cause I value my boat to much... But then again, the bandon Bar isn't always predictable.....
