7/17 TUNA!!
I'm way to tired to give the long version, but we got 23 of the fat little devils this morning. I gave Sea Squid the GPS numbers, as I didn't think anyone else was interested. The water has rolled over as the warmest water we found was 59.4 and that was 44 miles out, basically in line with the 125/45 spot. There are a bunch of commercials out there and we stayed on the inside edge of them for about 17 of our fish. There was a huge section of 58.8 degree water that was void of life until that 44 mile area when the temp went up to 59.2..........and that where the fleet and the fish are. We didn't see any birds working or current lines, just a half degree temp break. When we ran back in, we saw some jumpers 20 miles from Depoe on the inside of that same 58.8 degree water. These fish were boiling and splashing in little pockets all over the place and we got another 5 big ones on the fish traps. On the outside they really showed a preference for black/purple and a small purple cedar plug. The outside fish were plugged with grill and nothing else while the inside fish had squid, candle fish and anchovie in them. I gave all this info to another ifisher that will be at Depoe in the AM, so if anyone else is thinking of running, just go to Depoe and follow the pack, as it sounds like there will be 4 or 5 boats heading out. The departure time was 5:15 to 5:30. If you are reading this tonight, get sick or tell the boss your car won't work. The tuna will be there for a few more months, but the ocean conditions won't The water does not get any nicer. Pure glass with a little swell. At 45 miles out it was blowing about 10 or 12 knots from the south.
More info to follow
