Question Glyde slicks for boat trailer

I am looking to put Glyde slicks on my trailer. I see that most do not recommended use with a riveted boat. I have a 16' riveted Smokercraft. Has anyone found a something similar to glide sticks that work with riveted boats?

Thanks

Well, you made me go look at my boat. I have a 1996 17' Sylvan that has been on glide sticks(5 one footers per side since its birth). My boat is pretty heavy with a Honda 90 and Honda 9.9 4 strokers and a 31 gal gas tank, dual large batteries, etc. The boat gets a fair amount of road travel each year. I cannot see any issues with the rivets(they don't look worn(paint off the tips) and I can see some that sometimes(boat isn't always in the same spot side to side) sit on the sticks and I know I don't and haven't had any leaks or problems. Really no difference between a Sylvan and Smokercraft so........... i had never heard that the glide sticks were not recommended for rivets but I can kind of see why maybe-just never gave it a thought. Something else to worry about now But seriously, I love them for loading and unloading(unless on a steep ramp and someone unhooks you before you are ready cause you are going to go whether you like it or not) and it has been no problem for me.

I'm not sure what your issues are but i also bought a larger 2 geared/2 speed winch depending on which gear you attach the handle which makes it real easy for the wife to winch the boat right to the top and tight. Good luck!!!

Yes, they bolt to the bottom bunks. They are actually named E-Z slide trailer Pads or Glyde Sliks depending on the brand. Both Cabelas and and Bass Pro Shops have them. One is molded from Teflon Composite and the other is hard injection molded polyproplene treated with a anti friction coating of some sort???

I see that there is a warning now for use with heavier boats(not recommended for welded boats over 4000# and Fiberglass over 1500#) and riveted boats. There were no warnings back when i bought them so there must have been some issues somewhere along the line.

However, if you look at the warning for riveted boats it is because the rivets may chip the the "Sliks" not that the "Sliks" will damage the rivets.

I personally have the EZ slide trailer Pads (5 per side) for my 17' riveted Sylvan and while i have seen scratches on the slides but they have not chipped and they are 9 years old and my boat gets unloaded and loaded probably in the neighborhood of 20-30 times a year.

PS. You can figure around $30 to do a boat my size.

Thanks for you input, and for clearing up the confusion on the name. I guess I can't read or spell.

I have thought about adding these but worry about damage to the bottom of the boat, especially while running down the road. I have a 16' Alumaweld Talon, welded or course, with a 50hp merc, so it is not that heavy.

I load and unload allot by myself so the easier the slide the better to my way of thinking.
