Default Looking for a seat for August Halibut.

Both my dad and my brother have other plans for the August days, and my other friend from Florence already has a full boat.

So are there any kind souls out there willing to bring me along? I am dying to catch my first halibut, and am drooling over the idea of doing a triple header of halibut, tuna, and salmon =).

I of course will pitch in for gas and other expenses. Also, if you have an extra halibut setup, I would like to use it... otherwise I will have to borrow my brothers electric setup that has a car battery along with it. It's neat and all... but I prefer reeling in my fish the old fashioned way.

Feel free to call me on my mobile phone at 503-998-9912 if you have an open seat =).

Thanks very much in advance,

Matt

P.S. I'll even have my wife bake some brownies for the trip!

Its an electric reel. Big heavy thing. You hook it up to a car battery, and press a button and it reels in for ya. Works pretty well when you are fishing in 300+ feet of water.

However, I think it makes you feel detached from the fishing experience, and I would prefer not to use it.

I must admit that would actually be kind of nice.... especially after you just got done reeling in the first 200 ft of line....

I may have a seat or two available for this coming trip. I'm down here on the S.Coast in Coos Bay. Hey lepper I think I saw posts that you are down here also. What do you mean 19' isn't big enough?? You're welcome to follow me if you need encouragement. What kind of setup do you have??? I run out there most of the time in a 21' fish-rite sled and do just fine. When my dad isn't using his 28' bayliner we all jump in it though for an easy ride. There are many ways to skin a cat down here to catch flatties. One of which is to put in at Port Orford and it's only a 19 mile run to the hali hole. Let me know if you guys are interested.

Tailchaser,

I would definitely be interested if you are for sure going.

Would we just be targeting flatties? Or trying for tuna and nooks as well? Do you have an extra halibut rod?

Wow...Salmon, hali, and tuna....what a float plan. I've recently done hali and salmon on the same day, twice even, but tuna also? That would be too perfect.

Almost certain halibut and tuna in the same day, if there's life left in us by the time we reach close to home a chinookee could be targeted. I usually throw out some pots in the ocean so maybe even some of the clawed critters. I could hook you up with a rod. I'm for sure going to make a run on the 3rd barring something catastrophic. Obviously the weather will have something to say towards that but for now it's go for launch. I'll include you on the battlefield until you tell me otherwise. Make sure to email me a week or so before so I can let you know the scoop on weather and what not.

*********, you're welcome to the party. Only hardcores allowed though buddy. Fish till you drop or run out of gas, whichever happens first.

yep, i'm down in bandon.... and I haven't worked up enough courage to go that far out yet.... specially since my boat is a little over a month old.... it is a 19 foot alumaweld stryker... with a 90hp suzuki 4 stroke.....

And I would love to go for the big flatties... and tuna AND chinook... all of the above!!!!

I don't launch from port orford yet because I don't have my boat set up to do so..... anyway..... We should at least get together and do some nookie/silver fishin.....

Tailchaser,

Ok, reserve one seat for me. I'm definitely in. I'll email you a week before the trip like you said, and we can go over the details.

Thanks a ton and dont worry, I'm pretty hardcore when it comes to fishing .

Matt

P.S. I'd still be interested in a shot on the 2nd if anyone else has an open seat that day.

Hey lepper sounds good to me. The tides are looking good at the end of the week and I may try to sneak out after work. If I get all my post-marriage details done early this week I'll give it a go. I'll email you if I do.

Actually Port Orford is well suited already for sleds. My boat is a sled also and it takes 10 min for it to be slinged and in the water. No extra's needed. I think I may try and launch there on the opener but we'll see how it plays out come closer to the time.

I only know of one instance where a boat slipped out of the sling. The sling operator was drunk (at 7 am) and was fired soon afterwards. It just used to be a movable crane on wheels too. Now they have two very nice cranes and you're not in the boat when it's hoisted down. They wait until it touches water and you walk down to it, hop in, and take off. It's so easy to sling an aluminum boat I haven't bothered welding any pad-eyes on the boat.

On another note I was officially hitched on July 6th and got back from the honeymoon this last sunday. My body is still in detox from one too many tequilla's.

I'm pretty sure I'll be taking some people from work tomorrow afternoon though if you'll be around.
