Tun~A~Lert!
Hey everybody!
I just got phone call from Sea Squid about a tuna report from Newport. A commercial boat just came in with bullets from 40 miles offshore.
Hmmmm ... got the next few days off ... what to do ... mow the lawn? Fix the car? Go buy a new laptop to replace the road rashed unit?
Go fishing !! Yeah that's it.
We will post the float plan as it develops ... stay tuna - d.

Re: Tun~A~Lert!
We are going down tomorrow evening and are planning on finishing Mon-Fri, with Tuna our first priority (weather permitting of course). Can't wait to lay into them. Salmon will be our fall back. A couple of times we went out last year until late afternoon and nailed our Coho on the way back in. We usually go out of Depoe bay, maybe we will see you there. My friends boat is the Serious Fun (a 25' bayliner trophy with alaska cabin). I will check posts until tomorrow morning when I get off duty, then onto the high seas.
Pilar if you get any specifics to area hot spots please let us know.
Thanks

Re: Tun~A~Lert!
Hook-up ... We are Sunday fishers, it looks like. That is 'Puffin's' only available day. The word around the campfire was 40 due west of Newport. I'm going for old reliable, Depoe Bay, clear the last bouy and set a course for W125 N45.
The SST shows 59 to 60 degree 30 miles west of the beach.
Fish on the dock at Newport seals the deal. We may opt for a repeat run on Monday but that is pretty doubtful.
Gotta go now, there's a boat in my driveway.

Re: Tun~A~Lert!
Hey Pilar & y'all,
My buddy Phil was at the rockpile yesterday looking for salmon; said the water temp was 59 deg. The 7/4 terrafin shot shows warm water all over the place. But the best edge looks like right outside the rockpile, rather than to the north. They might be closer than you think.....Good luck, Mark

Hey Seasquid, thanks for the report. My back porch will never be the same after processing 10 cases of Tuna.
Look at the SST now .......... lots of red, like blood.

Re: Tun~A~Lert!
Pilar,
You're killing me, just killing me! Damn, all I could think about was you out there Sunday or Monday just knocking them dead. I was totally committed to taking people salmon fishing, and we did outstanding, but all I could think about was 'damn, I should just throw this thing into gear and head west."
I'm glad you got them, you can thank my boat for taking on water for the tuna report. I woke up Saturday morning to three feet of water in my bilge -- "holy crap." I guess I need to get this thing out of the water ASAP. Turned out my seal around the plug bracket was shot -- a little sealant and back in the water she went -- Seasquid is now water free in the bilge -- anyway, that is when I talked to a commercial guy I know who gave me the heads up. For those of you reading this, you could tell in Pilar's voice after I told him that he was quivering with tuna fever -- a pretty bad case to be exact. I think the only cure is a fresh tuna with a shot of Patrone.
I'm so ready to go I can taste it....I have a cooler the size of a coffin, well I guess it is for a tuna, and a fishbox about the same size. The next ultra flat day and I'm gone -- my salmon buddies will just have to wait.
Seriously, if anybody needs a running mate some day please give me a holler -- I'd prefer to not run by myself, although it wouldn't be the first time. Seasquid is in South Beach, but can easily be loaded and drove up to Depoe Bay. My cell is (541) 740-4975. Just about any day is good for me for the next two weeks. The rest of this week doesn't look appealing with the forecast, but maybe a day next week will cooperate. My range is about 40 miles one way......

Seasquid: You sure made a lot of people happy with that report. THANKS! Many grateful folks accepted gifts of fresh Al.
Yes, Pilar was quivering with Tuna Fever. We administered Tuna followed by Cuervo (didn't have Patron on hand) it helped until the exhaustion wore off, but I think he needs a second dose... as do I! Caution - Tuna Fever is highly contagious!

Re: Tun~A~Lert!
That's nothing really. I called my old friend 'Puffin' and told him what you said to me on the phone.
I heard him drop something, literally drop whatever he was working on and he said about 3 seconds later ...
"When are we going down to the beach?"
What can I say. You go when you can and you tell your buddys so they can go when you can't.
Let's run together sometime SS. I can do either Newport or Depoe Bay. I prefer Depoe because the run is a little bit shorter and we avoid the bad road (always rough there) out by the Rockpile.
Hey Ray, where's dem photos mang?> Trust me Seasquid, you ain't dying yet, wait till you see the 'wall of whoa' when we get the photos posted.

Re: Tun~A~Lert!
I'm waiting for those photos --
I'm with you on Depoe Bay....I've done Tillamook a few times, but I would prefer Depoe. We need this heat to disappear.
I'm heading back to South Beach Friday afternoon for a weekend of salmon fishing, but I'd alter my plans if the ocean lays down.

Taking the week end to make preparations for the big San Juan Islands trip. I too have tuna fever. If I can't get out with Threemuch due to weather. I might be able to crew Mon Or tues.
