Re: Boats off Manzanita, what are you fishing for?
There are some good bottom fishing spots out off shore there plus a strip of gravel that if you know where it is, produces the occassional halibut. If the drift is not too bad, you can catch some pig rock fish out there. It has been awhile since I got to fish that but that is what you are probably looking at.

Yep
What he said
I caught a 65 lb Butt there a few years ago along with some huge lings and rock fish
It was worth the run for sure

Re: Boats off Manzanita, what are you fishing for?
There is nice reef structure around 30 fathoms directly off Manzanita, rockfish, lings, and halibut can be had there. However, it is LOADED with canary rockfish and even the occasional yelloweye. If you use big baits like a half shad or something, then I think you are OK. I wouldn't fish it with herring, I don't think that canarys make it from a 180' embolism.
If you mooch a herring, at least make sure you have a release device, don't leave a bunch of floaters.

I mad a release clip to hook them through the bottom lip and send them back down, It worked great the other day.

Not to be too much of a jerk, but I don't spill numbers on bottomfishing spots any more, esp on the internet. It's a big area, thirty fathoms off Manzanita gets you started.

If you fish in 100ft or less you will encounter very few YER or Canaries
When I caught the halibut I could easily make out people walking on the beach and the depth was 40 ft on top of the structure dropping to 100ft and a sandy bottom
The bottom fish were stacked like cordwood

Indeed you want to be fishing that very near shore area on the slack tides only
I have seen some pretty good rollers come through there
