Default Honda 7.5 long shaft?

A friend of mine got a nice older honda 7.5 four stroke short shaft for a good deal. He was looking for a long shaft for his drift boat but couldn't pass on this one. I know you can convert a johnson or evenrude to a long shaft but can't find anything on a honda. Any body ever heard of a honda long shaft? THANKS.

Honda has for many years made the 5 HP thru 20 HP outboards in the Short Shaft, Long Shaft and Extra Long Shaft.

I just did a 1984 honda from short to long....it is very spendy if you use new parts (several hundred). Not as slick as the evinrude conversion but can be done.

did mine for for about $125....ebay for parts and needed to custom fab a couple things. Now I can sell the shortshaft parts to cover the cost.

you will need 4 things minimum

driveshaft(long)
shift shaft (you can make this if needed)
water tube (ditto)
exhaust housing(long)

I redid some seals while I was in there too, waterpump, etc.
Likely cheaper to find a longshaft and swap the parts and resell as a short if you are attached to the powerhead.
