Awesome fish, I want one. We are going to go out over the 4th, 5th, 6th, and 7th, hope we get into the big kings. We have not hooked into one yet. Do you have any pointers????? What to use, how deep to set the down rigger??

RJ / Wak (or anyone else),

I am unable to yet catch the nuance of the color difference between Coho and Kings when the fish is thrashing and we are trying to decide whether to net or not to net (Of course if it is a super 40 lber, it goes in the net).

Can anyone help me with the boat-side ID so that I don't have to 1) net a Coho I plan to release, and 2) lose a King next to the boat while messing around trying to have him open wide for a peek at those gums?

Orca, look at the top of the fishes back and tail kings will have the black spots and if the sun is just right a purple hue to their back as well, silvers have a greenish looking back and no spots.RJ

RJ,

Thanks. I will try and look for spots.

A couple weeks ago at Winchester, I swear we say purple, then netted a couple Coho.

The first fish in the boat was a 7-8 lb Chinook, we saw purple, netted, and were rewarded with Mr. Blackmouth. Next up was an 11 1/2 lb Chinook, and we thought we had the look down. Then 2 Coho in a row that we thought had a purple glint. The Coho were decent size, larger than the 4-5 lbers we were getting up here last year.

I want to get this figured out so that I never have to net another one outside Coho season.

dont feel bad Orca we have had some big coho that got a second look, but them black blotchy spots will never fail ya no need to say open wide feeeesh, its those stupid pinks that fooled us kept letting them go one day out there, we knew they were'nt silvers ,just had a different look to them but it didnt dawn on us till after the fact we could have kept them

Stoyjun Princess, last Saturday we started at the Pile around 6:30am and hit several fish at 40 feet. As the day progressed, around 9:00 we moved the riggers down to 50 and caught the rest of our limit. I think the fish are all over out there but I can probably email you our coordinates tonight if I get to my boat. If your leaving to go fishing, and will be away from your computer, if you have a cell phone I can call you. Just let me know and good luck.
