Default Are we done clamming?

Washington is closed down till October or so but what about Oregon?

Is it worth clamming on the minus tides or should we just wait till October?

I'm mighty low on Razors and really really want some more.....

Oregon razor clamming is still very good on the North Coast.

From Seaside to the old Peter Iredale wreck area there are miles of beach to dig on. You can access the beach in several areas around Seaside and then as you go north there are popular spots in Gearhart, Del Ray Beach, Sunset Beach, and the Ft. Steven's area. Drive on beach approaches at Sunset Beach, Del Ray Beach and Ft. Steven's are probably the most popular. No beach access for drive on in Seaside.

the 4 of us limited out yesterday morning at Gearhart. There must have been a hundred cars on the beach, as far as I could see... I'll post some pictures and a story of our adventure later this afternoon at

http://www.geocities.com/crcfishing/index.html

we had a fun time... it was our first time, and probably not the last.... I'm glad there is a season on the clams... based on the number of clammers we saw on a monday morning, this beach could be picked clean in a year or two without a limited season for picking..

Cheers to all. Craig

I agree that there should be some regulation. However, I found that 10% of the clammers got 90% of the clams! The other 90% just walked around with their head down looking.

Mr. Fisherman,
The Clamming is open til July 15 in Oregon. I always go to Sunset Beach. It takes about 30 min. to an hour depending on how many people you have to work around . Memorial day week-end was a zoo. Look for the Key holes up higher out of the surf. Don't park on the WET SAND !!! Clam Beds. I'll let you know at your going to the other side Party tommorrow if I can get down there . Might want to car pool. Tight lines or is it Happy As a Clam? Tom

I hope you're right about 10% of the people getting 90% of the clams... 'cause there were a lot of people looking down at the sand...

it's fun to spot the experienced people clamming... they're the ones with a 1 gallon milk jug looped thru their belt... they appeared to know how to scan the surface of the sand as the water recedes from the shore... I'd expect they're less likely to dig up the smaller sized clams and leave them on the surface for the birds to pick up..... I found a few necks sticking out of the water that way, but the clams were a bit small when I dug them up...

which reminds me, I had to bury a couple of clams people had left on the sand.. I suppose you're only breaking the law if you're caught, right ?

anyways, it looks like we have about 3 more weeks to clam... if so, it's been a fun experience and look forward to return trip next year.
