Default Prop Change

I have a BF-90 Honda motor. The original prop is a 3 blade prop. I recently bought a 4 blade prop that came off of a BF-110 Honda. Since it is BF series, it fits perfectly. Will this have any effect on my motor operation?? Will I have to watch the RPMs??
Thanks for any insight You can give me.

A four blade might give you a quicker hole shot I would think, and stay hooked up better in a real tight turn.

I don't think that with our typical non performance hulls in our typical fishing boats here in the NW, and only a 90 hp motor, you may not notice any difference at all.

As long as your RPMs are running where they're supposed to at WOT your good to go.

I have a BF90 also. What diameter's and pitches are we talking? At WOT you'll want to be turning around 5.5k minimum, 6k max.

I have a 4 blade 15 pitch prop on my 90 Honda mounted on my 17 ft Arima Sea Chaser. I can run right at 6000 rpm but my mph is only about 34. Anyone run a 17 pitch prop on a similar set up?

prop is 4 blade 15. 90 is on a 200 searunner. I will keep rpm between 5500 and 6000 and check speed with GPS.

Thanks for the info

Tested it and the 4 prop seems a little better out of the hole and speed was about 1.5 mph faster at 5800

What is your top speed and is 5800 your WOT?

Sounds like a perfect setup! Why change? Chasing a couple mph? You're going to give up low-end performance to get it.... 34mph in an Arima is about all you should expect. You want faster, buy a different hull!

Replaced my three blade with a four blade a few years ago, 90 hp merc 4 stroke, same pitch prop as before. Not only better hole shot, but better handling in turns, etc.

You guys must be rich. Chugging along at a nice, sedate 4000, even 4500 rpm, instead of 6000, doesnt take that much longer to get there but sure saves on gas.

I doubt that they are running at 5,800-6,000 RPM's everywhere they go!

Correct propping of a boat requires you to find out what the WOT (Wide open throtle) RPM's are with each individual prop. We all know what over reving can do, but a prop with too much pitch will lug your engine even if you are not running WOT and can cause as much or more damage in the long run than running the same engine at or near the rated RPM!
