Default Weekend Halibut

Due to work (Hack...Ptooeey!!!) I won't be going out on Friday but plan on an early morning attack out of Newport. Anyone else planning to be out of that port this weekend?

Puffin is planning on both days. I am in his boat on Friday for sure.

I can't confirm if Pilar will be there.

It doesn't look good for me either :depressed: .

Johnboy, this could mean August dates. What do you say... Maybe a combo Hali-Tuna trip?

Please sign me up if you do.

Friday looks impossible for me but the Navaho will be going out. Saturday is a kill day for me however.
Newport is the place. Approx 0500hrs.

I was thinking about going out of Newport at least on Saturday, possibly Friday. Not sure where the halibut hole is out of that port though, I usually go out of Garibaldi. Went out to the Rockpile last Sat. and partner hooked 2 landed 1 chinook. Saw boat bottomfishing in same spot land two big Hali, 70-80 lbs. Any help on where the hali hole is out of Newport is appreciated. I guess I could probably follow the train!

corrirod,

You're welcome to follow me out on Saturday. I'll be in a white/gray Marlin with hardtop. I'll be followed/following a red Alumaweld and a Boston Whaler.

We plan on heading out of South Beach between 5:30 and 6:00.

I'll be monitoring ch 77, if you want to hail me.

Of course, all is weather dependent.

Best of Luck!

Hey Moby,

I'm in the same boat at Corrirod (so to speak) -- always out of Garibaldi, but hitting Newport for this round. Many, many trips to the Pile, but not the Ranch. I will also be in a Marlin -- white with a royal blue and black stripe.

77 it is. You may have another boat added to your convoy.

I'll be there on Saturday as well. My daughter has never done Halibut so this may be her last chance. My mate is hooked on it now so she'll be there too.

'Puffin' will be boat camoing and fishing Fri and Sat.

Just one big happy family!

Hey, lets try Rockpile salmon on the way back in.

I'll be looking for ya, Squid. But, I'm not doing the Ranch. I saw several halibut caught last weekend at the pile, one was a nice 40 pounder.

My crew is not too excited about running to the Ranch after going with me that first weekend.

Adrianna will join the fleet out of Newport Saturday morning. I will monitor 16, 68, & 77

Is anyone planning on some early morning clamming before departure?

U wish, Pilar. You built her engine right, I built everything else right. Anything the barge Pilar can do, Adrianna can do, if not better

Hey how deep is the rock pile..how much line do I need?

Not real deep. I was trolling in 150-190 ft. most of the time. Hit 2 salmon at 80ft on the riggers.

Thanks Moby. I'll be there in a white Trophy and I'll give you a call on 77.

I look forward to seeing all the "Salty Dogs" out slaying fish!

We are set for late departure on both days. Might see ya out there on the prospecting grounds though. Hope the weather holds; as we wont be crossing the bar until 0800.

Has anyone seen this yet off the ODFW report?

PACIFIC HALIBUT: Aug. 2 and/or Aug. 3 will be open for all-depth fishing from Cape Falcon to Humbug Mountain. Retention of yelloweye rockfish is prohibited on open all-depth Pacific halibut days if any halibut are on board the vessel. Inside 30-fathom curve open through Sept. 30 or quota. South of Humbug Mt.: Open through Sept. 30.

Yup!

It is frustrating that not all web pages are updated, eh? Maintaining information in many locations must be pretty costly, I would assume...
