Default To anyone that loves their mom & Beethoven

Moonlight Sonata
...............................

august has windows open wide

i’ve tried all night to sleep
the sheets seem heavy and wet

suffocating

i can not get to where i need to be
not now

everything is wrong
stifling

with the windows open
i can hear it all through the hollow air

dogs bark
men and women talk

families gamble and laugh
& let their children run
late into the moonlight

a moth batters a hot bulb

the tired wind tries
but dies

mother is up

i can hear her moving the bench

i can hear her take a breath

settling in,
she’ll close her eyes for just a moment
& in the still
just before hitting that first note

something changes

the feel is different
the air is different

everything

it is late

nearly midnight

too late to be playing a piano

but no one could ever sleep
in this oppressive heat

her hand has stopped
the pulse of time

the first stanza is chilling
and we all know what awaits

a haunting and lonely sound

from her
from the piano

from someplace cold and clear
someplace deep and powerful

kept hidden until now

the notes fill the hollow spaces between the windows
and between the ears
everyone stops to hear

notes memorized long ago
are played effortlessly in the dark

somewhere in it all

the men and women stop their chatter

the dogs freeze
and stand still
and decide to lay down

to let the day rest

the heat,
cooled

the night has ended
the breeze begins
again

Now, next time one of those hot nights happen on the coast, I'm going to hear Moonlight Sonata in the air. Either that, or I'll have to play it. But, I'll be thinking of my Mother. She would have done that, you know. I can imagine her doing that.
She was a wonderful pianist. Not really talented or show like, or good enough for professional playing, but played from her soul.

Very, very nice. Gave me the chills.
