Default Post acts of kindness here.

I've been this story to telling anyone who will listen cause I think it's cool!

Wednesday morning as I was heading out the door to work, I decided at the last second to grab my checkbook and tuck it into my jacket pocket with the cell. It didn't fit very well but I ignored it and jumped in the truck and went to work. Once I got there about 7 am the checkbook was missing. Couldn't find it anywhere. Figured it must have fallen out on the way out to the truck. After work I looked around my place and didn't find it.

I checked my phone for messages. There's a message from a guy who found the checkbook out on highway 101. Turns out he's a logger from Banks, and offered to meet me in Bay City in the morning to return the checkbook!

The whole crew was there. They gave me the checkbook and wouldn't take anything in return.

Thank you, Tom. Thank you to the crew. I really appreciate it. You guys are a class act.

(I figure the checkbook got caught on the running board and blew off at highway speed.)

To everyonje else on Ifish -- now beat that for being COOL! (shouting intended). Post your acts of kindness stories here!

I while back I was playing music in a band and after we finished a gig, I loaded up with the bass player and put his rig in the back of my pickup along with a guitar that had been given to me by my parents for my 13th birthday. Well, it was late and after we unloaded the bass player, I yammered my way out to the pickup like always but forgot one thing: The tailgate.

I get back to my apartment, hop out and see that my guitar is no longer in the bed and upon looking further back to see the tailgate still down I just about died right there on the spot. I don't condone fast driving in the city, but in the rush to get back to my buddies house and retrace my route I drove very very fast (in Corvallis it's all one way streets so I had to start there first.) I drove around until 3 in the morning looking for the case, looking for anyone that might have it in hand, nothing. I can't even tell you how miserable I was that night at how careless I was with something that meant so much to me. I have 9 guitars all piled in a corner and to keep looking over and seeing that empty spot was just killing me.

I made up an ad and posted hundreds of them all along the part of the route where I was most likely to have lost it. Weeks went by and I then get a phone call. Turns out, some college kid was walking home drunk and he said a car drove by and my guitar literally skipped right up to his feet ("I was like wow he's gonna want that back!!"). He said he stood on the corner for a few minutes waiting for me to come back around but I never showed so he took it home. Now for the record, the distance between where I lost it and where his apartment was would be about 2 or 3 miles, and drunk, he lugged this thing all the way home because he knew it was the right thing to do. As I was at his apartment picking it up he said the whole time his buddies were trying to get him to sell it for beer money but he wouldn't because he knew it wasn't right and that I would probably put up a search for it. He claimed he could tell that it meant something to somebody. After a few weeks he went drinking at the same bar and saw my ad.

I stated on my flyer that honesty pays, but to get this dude to take the reward money was like pulling teeth. He kept saying well I do need the money but it's your guitar, I'm just giving it back etc. At sight he looked like your typical frat boy (no offense, and not to claim that all are dishonest), hat cocked off to the side, gote, piercings, tats the works. Not someone who would refuse his buddies pressure for beer money. But the dude did and for his honesty I finally got him to take what I had set aside for anyone that would do just what he did, the right thing: $200. I went home happy, and he probably went out that night and had a blast.

My son lost his cell phone. I had been trying to reach him for days. I get a call from his # and it is two junior high kids that had found part of it on the road. They had taken the "sim card" and called the last # listed...me. They told me where to meet them and they handed over all the pieces & would not take any money either.

Who says kids today are worthless?

back in 95 in Boise, I was struggeling to make ends meet. One day on the way to work, my 1979 dodge Aspen died in the middle of the road.I got out to push it through the intersection. I called a friend and got a ride to work and when I got there found that my wallet had fallen out of my pocket. In it was my whole paycheck in cash...Dont remember why I cashed it.....Rent was due..Bills was due.....That night I got a call from a 14 year old boy who found my wallet, I didnt even bother to ask about the cash. I went to pick it up and guess what? All the money was in it. I tried to give him twenty bucks and he refused to take it.....

And then the other night I was at a resteruant with my Grand Daughter and my Ex wife. Some guy walked up and droped a note on our table and walked out...The note said that he was paying for our dinner '"jUST BECAUSE"

good stuff to wake up to this morning before I turn on the news

2 yrs or so ago, my sister was visiting Boise with her kids and her middle son, 13 and 6' tall and who is autistic got lost in a strange city. He walked and walked, but is too shy to ask anybody anything. A lady noticed him looking hot and confused walking on the side of the road and stopped to ask him if he needed any help, he said yes, and she brought him home to cool down (it was over 90 degrees that day), just as they walk in her husband is watching the first posting of the amber alert on TV and they called the police right away. Needless to say the whole family was relieved as he had been gone for about 8 hrs and had walked over 10 iles in the heat and we were all preparing or already on the way to Boise by then. I still think of that lady and her actions today even though I don't know her name. I know he probably would have been found in time after the amber alert was made, but she took the time to notice a child (large child) in need and with a confused look on his face.

I found a wallet on a boat launch pay kiosk in Astoria. The fisherman was returning to the dock after setting his crab pots. I recognized him from his drivers license. I returned his wallet. He was shocked and did not even know it was missing.
He insisted I take a cash reward. I politely refused.
We slayed the sturgies that day. Karma at work.

My wife married me and has stayed married to me for 10 years. Lets me hunt & fish just about as much as I like. Four years ago I got addicted to waterfowl hunting and go about 25+ times a year. That was the real sign I has a keeper.

I was up at the hospital visiting my mom the other day (she has since returned) and in the parking lot I found a cell phone with the battery cover popped off and the battery laying there next to it. I picked it up, put it back together and called the last number dialed (well second to last number because that one had a name). She contacted the owner and we met up. Not to be negative on a good hearted thread but I think it's unfortunate these days the number of people that are genuinely surprised when you return something...

I'll be retiring soon to do some traveling.
I was invited to Hogmasters house for dinner Friday evening I thought.
It wasn't dinner, it was a party of friends and ifishers.
Good friends are something special and it was a special evening for me.
Thanks Gary and Lori and all who showed up.
You guys are great!

Sometime last Febuary as I was launching my boat, in the dark.....I some how knocked my brand new Canon camera out of my truck onto the boat ramp.

At days end I pulled my boat up to a nice place on shore to get photos of the days catch, only to find NO camera in the boat ? I got back to my truck, looked for the camera ? No camera.

I got home that night, looked everywhere, asked my wife, and still no camera.

The next day at 7am my cellphone rings, a gentleman on the other end of the line asks me if I fished out of "XYZ" yesterday ? I said, I sure did....he says well I have your camera ! I had taken pictures of my boat and my cellphone number was very clear in the picture, the gentleman had scrolled through the pictures in the camera and got my number off the side of my boat and called me.

To make things even better, the gentleman was about 10 minutes from my house when he called, and had the camera with him !

Very nice of the guy to do that.

Several years ago one of my crew lost his cell phone in the parking lot of the Warrenton boat ramp. The next day one of our guides (Oregon - Costa Rica) approached me and asked if we had lost a cell phone as he had found it near where we were parked.
He would not accept a reward.

Last winter I was headed out the 205 freeway southbound for Oregon City. Coming around the big sweeping left hand turn in the fast lane near Hwy 224 I hit some debris that shredded my right front tire. Fortunately, mid-day traffic was light and I was able to negotiate across the freeway so I could change the tire in the "E" lane - or so I thought. I had a spare and a lug wrench that fit but my OEM scissor jack was rusted into a chunk of scrap metal. Figuring I was screwed, I jumped the small concrete barrier and prepared to make phone calls until I found someone willing to bring me a jack. Before I could dial the first number a guy pulled over and whipped a floor jack out of the back of his rig! I quickly changed the tire and 5 minutes later we were both on our way

Thanks again if you're reading this

I would like to say that the many people here on ifish that have offered me emergency space to store my boat displays a huge act of kindness on their part
