That sure is a nice chinook that wak'm&stak'm caught at the Rockpile. And there are many halibut fanatics on this board. So why is there an eerie silence when Mike Gilchrist tries to pull folks together, to work with the Recreational Fishing Alliance, so that we can continue to fish for salmon & halibut in the ocean?
Maybe it has not yet hit home for y'all what is about to happen in 2003: NO MORE DEEP WATER HALIBUT FISHING, and possibly no more salmon fishing outside of 20 fathoms (no more Rockpile); at the very least, "restrictions" on deep water salmon fishing. This is not some sick joke; I wish it was. The only way to avoid this is for a very large scale effort on the part of sportfishers to lobby the hell out of the regulators on this one, and right now the RFA seems to be the best vehicle with which to fight it.
Every year there is some fishery fight going on. This is the mother of them all, I kid you not. You think the Oregon economy is bad now? Unless you want to buy cheap coastal real estate, you won't want to see what will happen to all the coastal fishing towns if this thing goes through without a fight from the sportfishers.
So please, please let Mike Gilchrist know if you are interested in supporting the effort.
Thank you, Mark Mc
