Red Meat Floatilla 6/15&16
NOAA reports, and the weather, are looking real good for ocean salmon fishing this weekend. Baring a significant worsening in the conditons, I am planning on it. Still debating Astoria, Newport, or perhaps another location and am open to suggestions. Would anyone like to partner up for a floatilla this weekend?

Re: Red Meat Floatilla 6/15&16
I'm gonna watch the weather and bust out of the CR if conditions are favorable. Maybe Fri or Sat. I've been hearing kings are being caught out by the CR buoy about 40-50 ft down. Forecast is for 3 & 5 with 15kts and low tide at 1030 hrs Friday and 1107 low Sat. so at least we dont hafta get up at odark thirty.

Re: Red Meat Floatilla 6/15&16
NOAA forcast has improved! Now 2 & 4 at 15... all day ocean accessability. Tides and overcast weather condions are also favorable. This should be a great chinook harvest weekend on big blue.
Astoria is looking good, and so is the rock pile off of Newport. I'll decide where I'm going tomorrow, and hopefully will have some other ifishers to buddy up with.

Re: Red Meat Floatilla 6/15&16
After two months of tinkering with my boat, the bloody thing is finally running. (It was a bad condenser which I replaced with a brand new bad condenser.)
I'll be launching from South Beach on Saturday morning and heading for the rock pile assuming Wakem posts more pictures after his journey today.
I'll be monitoring channel 77 and hollerin' periodically for ifishermen.
Good luck, boys!

Re: Red Meat Floatilla 6/15&16
I've decided on Astoria. ....Did too well at Bouy 1 last year, and I think crabbing and gators should also be better bonuses on the Columbia as apposed to Newport.
Who's in??

Re: Red Meat Floatilla 6/15&16
I'll be on the pile tomorrow. Wak, are you running a flash or dodger in front of your plug-cut? I'm thinking about dragging both, one on each rigger.

Re: Red Meat Floatilla 6/15&16
In CA the ******* will run all kinds of gear, but bait is a last resort. Bait don't fish if it's hit and missed. Spoons, hoochies, and plugs will.
I think the flasher you are talking about is a Hot Spot. But I have seen em run abe n al's and bechold and sons as well as luhr jensen dodgers.

Wak, you talking about a fish flash? Plastic prism triangle that spins inline. That is what I was referring to in previous post...

Re: Red Meat Floatilla 6/15&16
What we have done in the past is run the big dodgers with plug cut on 3 to 4 ft leaders.
We also run them a good 30 or 40 ft behind the down rigger.
The commercial guys almost all run the plastic flashers that roll in circles ( the name exscapes me now) with 46in leaders and just a hookie, with a chunk sometimes.
I get off work at 7 in the morning so i dont know whether Sat is going to work for me, unless the weather is unresistable
Good luck and let me know what you catch..

We have two, possibly three boats shooting for 8a bar crossing at Astoria. Anyone else?

Re: Red Meat Floatilla 6/15&16
Those heading out the Columbia at 8:00 am, should read NOAA.
Columbia River Bar Forcast
"Stong Ebb Current around 8:30 a.m. Sat."
I have seen the bar a real #itch when there is this much water in movement. Even with a small swell. Just play it safe.

Don't bother warning Angle This, if the bar is too rough he'll just swim it. Please god put a stop to this fool!

Re: Red Meat Floatilla 6/15&16
Well, we crossed a real nasty bar at 6:30 yesterday just to go get beat-up on the rockpile as well. It was flat nasty out there. My guess would have been 5 and 5-7. We tried to drag some herring for awhile but it was really too rough to stand in the boat and after I wrapped some downrigger cable in the kicker prop we headed in to Seal Rock. At least it was flat in closer to shore. The bottomfishing was great (4 lings up to 14lbs, two cabbies, a canary, a slew of blacks and 20 keeper and undersized lings released) so we salvaged the day. I sure hope it's gonna lay flat for next weekend. Getting real sick of pounding waves..
