Default Westport Chinook

Went out of Westport yesterday. I took a friend who was salmon fishing for his first time. You know how it always goes. The beginner always gets the luck.

First action was a double hookup. He landed a 37" 23-1/2 pounder.

Fishing (as usual) is out about 15 miles. It was a little bumpy and probably not fishable today. Will try for Saturday.

Free fishing weekend here is WA, too. I think it will be just a tad crowded if the ocean is any good this weekend.

Went out to Westport on Friday and did pretty well. Fished out of Ocean Charters on the 50' Lucky Pierre. The ride out was a little choppy with some intermitent hail systems. Once we were on the drift the weather cleared and the bite was on. The Kings ranged from 12-20+ lb's. The 2 of us limited on 2 ea. in that range and one guy fought a 37 lb. beauty for over 1 hr. Mooching at 50-70 ft. did the best.

Planning on going back the first of July.

A 37 lb Springer is a Great fish!! But over an hour??? Did he end up getting the fish? Generally, with that much time, the fish wins. He must not have been putting any pressure on that fish.

An older gentleman with a cast on hooked the fish using a rod he brought along, it did look a little weak compared to others. When the fish headed to the front of the boat, his friend took over and followed him to the bow. After he landed the fish I was talking to him and he said he didn't want to horse the fish in. Whatever the case, nice job overall.
