Decided to Stay Home
After looking at the updated report
.SAT...E WIND 5 KT...VEERING TO W IN THE AFTERNOON. WIND WAVES
1 FOOT. NW SWELL 8 FT.
.SAT NIGHT...W WIND 5 TO 10 KT. WIND WAVES 1 FOOT. NW SWELL
7 FT. SLIGHT CHANCE OF SHOWERS.
.SUN...W WIND 5 TO 10 KT. WIND WAVES 1 FOOT. NW SWELL 6 FT.
SLIGHT CHANCE OF SHOWERS.
.SUN NIGHT...W WIND 5 KT. WIND WAVES 1 FOOT. NW SWELL 4 FT.
.MON...W WIND 5 KT. WIND WAVES 1 FOOT. W SWELL 4 FT.
I decided to save my fuel and stay home
It just doesn't seem worth it to fight the traffic and burn a couple of hunderd bucks on fuel for a chance at bottom fish
The crabbing is poor at best
The west wind could easily turn to a SW and mess up the seas
The only way I would go is if someone said to me that they would foot the entire fuel bill for the truck & boat
Anyone that is going have fun and be safe
I will be watching reruns of old fishing shows and cooking burgers at home

Re: Decided to Stay Home
I think you made a good choice. I'm staying home as well and working a little side job for fuel/fishing money.

Re: Decided to Stay Home
I agree with your decision and made mine about the same time. Just too much fuel for a shot in the dark.

Re: Decided to Stay Home
Very little wind 1 at 8 could very easily turn into 1 at 5 or 6 with that forecast I might even take a chance from Bend Or and I can get there for less than 200 bucks. aaaaaaaaalthough traffic is a concern busy weekend I admit be safe what ever your decision

Re: Decided to Stay Home
Check out Wetsands and Bouy Weather they give a little more favorable outlook and for the most part I think they hit closer to what it really does more of the time.
I think it has the potential based on the Sun Mon forcast to be much better than expected.

Re: Decided to Stay Home
Being that things can change so quickly..hoping for a forecast into next weekend is probably asking too much.

Re: Decided to Stay Home
I am planning to give it a try ( vessel Red Mist)-but am going to look closely at the updated forecasts during the day today, and may bag it if it does not improve a little from this morning's forecast.

Re: Decided to Stay Home
Saturday if I were fishing, it would certainly be tempting to head out with bottom fish as an alternative plan. that is if I were down in the central zone. But I am not fishing Saturday as We declared that a family day to take in a moving and some touristy stuff in Astoria.
Sunday and Monday on the other hand is Fish, fish, fish. Most likely for the last time up here for what does not exist. Probably see you CC boys at the end of may, perhaps June.

Re: Decided to Stay Home
I'm staying home this weekend also. Predictions aren't promising. I can get more stuff done around the house. Getting this stuff done now helps in getting more time to fish later. I have a few small things on the boat too. I'll be replaceing a bilge pump and getting more wax on it.
For those that do venture out be safe.

Re: Decided to Stay Home
Yep, diesel is $4.98 in Battle Ground today, will have to be a nice day to justify hauling to the coast.....

Re: Decided to Stay Home
In Lincoln City Fog has set in light wind, Waves look large but not nasty. Thinking i will sleep in tomorow and head out after the tide to drop the pots. Will be launching out of Depoe about 10.00.
Hoping to ventur out but may tuck in behind the rocks and bottom fish nearshore.
Will try to post tomorow.

Re: Decided to Stay Home
FYI, Depoe was closed to all recreational vessels all day today...so certainly will want to check restrictions before anybody decides to head out tomorrow.

Re: Decided to Stay Home
Were still going, gonna give it another look early morning, but with the light winds now, & expected light winds It look to be a nice Day, 7' to 9' swell to start, but decreasing thruout the Day, this Low Pressure system actually backtracked from Montana, & is now a Upper level Low, spread out wide away from the main Jet Stream, with a low pressure graident, these often make for a nice Day. Good Luck! to all that make it out.
