Default bay kit

The shaft on my kicker on my new north river is not quite long enough  Theres an option to put a bay kit on which exteneds the shaft about 5 inches lower. Has anyone had much experience with these? any drawbacks im not seeing? I really dont want to start cutting on my new boat so this seems like a good fix. Any input would help Thanks.

Default Re: bay kit

They weren't bay kits but I have turned 15" outboards into 20" ones with no problems. The bay kit is just 5" longer. These were Johnson motors. I haven't done others but I do know that some Merc (older motors , like mid '70s to mid '80s) motors are hard to get the water tube back in when you are replacing the lower unit. I haven't had to work on my '99 Honda yet so I don't know how hard they are. If Yamaha lower units are like the rest of their motor it should be an easy job too.

One tip that I would recommend is to put grease on the threads of the bolts before you
reassemble the lower unit, I like  "DeOx" but "No Corrode" or any non metallic water
proof grease will work.

I extended a short shaft 8 hp merc kicker with a bay kit in 1991 and it is still kicking just fine. I've had no problems.
