Default Free Halibut

This may not affect lots of folks but you high liners may be able to take advantage. June 8 which is the second day of the next sport halibut opener is also the first day of Oregon's free fishing weekend. You must follow other regulations such as bag and size limits but are not required to have a license or record your fish on a punchcard. This applies to other species as well but is not as critical as it is for halibut since you only allowed 6 fish on your punchcard. Keep after 'em!

So,

You're saying we don't have to punch our tag on the 8th? Hate to get back to the dock and find out otherwise!!

Can anybody confirm this? Does it really apply to Halibut?

The ODFW site says, "Licenses and tags are not required on Free Fishing Weekend; however, all other regulations, including bag limits, still apply. You can pick up a copy of the 2002 Sport fishing regulations at most sporting goods stores."

I to me, that means no tag punching, but all size limits and number of fish in possesion still apply.

My question is does this apply to non-residents as well, or do they still need a tag?
My out of state bud will have a tag next weekend just in case. It's not like the state has ever been to vague about these things before. Remember last years Buoy 10/Ocean 3 fish limits?

See the semi-full story at: http://www.dfw.state.or.us/ODFWhtml/...fweek_2002.htm

Thanks Dave,

Clear as mud

I do appreciate your efforts and echo your sentiment about the consistancy of our government run programs .

When in doubt CYA

We just about got in trouble once for not puting the species down. It is in the Halibut harvest section, go figure. We made the man happy and put the species number down right there in the Halibut harvest box so we were all legal

I don't think I'm gonna have to worry about filling my tag this year anyway. That is, unless I can find a ride to the not so secret hole just inside the 30 fathom line that my buddy caught a #118 flattie.

Any takers
