Default charter boat recommendation

I have just moved to the Portland area from So. Cal. Down south I would go fishing on the local charter boats about every 2 weeks. I love saltwater fishing, but I do not own a boat. I would like to get some information on charter boats along the coast. I like to fish for bottom fish, but I really like fishing for Albacore.
I have loads of saltwater rods reels and tackle, someone told me that most of the charter boats up here provide tackle, do they allow customer to bring there own gear?
Any information would be greatly appreciated.

Get on the Irish. Big black and orange charter. They are in Newport at the South Beach Marina. These guys are already out there everytime when we Tuna fish later in the summer. When we find the Irish we find the fish.

Tacki-too in Garibaldi is a good pick.

Gene and the Slo-Jo in Warrenton would be my pick for Bouy 10 or the Spark Plug for Salmon. I think he does Sturgeon too. The link is on the front page of the board.

Yep -- The Irish is the one out of Newport...but his boat fills up really fast. A fast boat, and he doesn't overload it with customers.

I would also suggest Siggi-G out of Garibaldi.

I dont have any specific recommendations as far as one charter to go on but I believe most of the Tuna boat that go out of our coasts are running handlines with a couple of rods and they really don't want to get away from their own geaar. That said it sounds like Capt' Rich is running a six pack boat out of winchester bay that sounds like a hell of a deal. pacific pioneer

Sounds like he is used to fishing the way that the Cail boats do with live chovies and squid and actually fishing the slide with irons.

you won't find our prices for charter trips comparable to So Cal I think we're willing to pay more so they charge more per person.

Bottomfishing boats really dont care if you bring your own tackle, as long as your technique meshes with the gear that the rest of the boat is fishing with.

there are charter boat operations out of every major port on the coast some of them are Westport Wa. Ilwaco Wa, Warrenton Or, HAmmonds Or Astoria OR Tillamook Bay Or, Depoe Bay or, Newport Or, Bandon and winchester bay or

I do have a few faves from a few of the ports In westport I like to fish the Ultimate

I also hear very good things about the Irish out of Newport. newport charters

I hope that helps

Here's another vote for the Irish. But, I'm pretty sure he is sold out for all tuna trips.

I would recomend going with Terry on the Umatilla II. Heck of a nice guy. Have gone with him several times for bottom fish and have always limited.

Yes Moby, Yes!!

Another reader, Moby? Patrick Stewart makes a great AHAB. Very believable. Rent that movie if you have not seen it.

The Irish is a "Fishy" boat for sure. I've found if you have a uy you like to fish with and he's full ask him for his choice for another skipper.
