Yaquina fishing

Heading to Newport for the weekend. Supposed to be crabbing but word around the campfire is that crabbing alone will not be worth the hassle/cost of dragging the boat along. How is the bottom fishing in the bay right now? How about crabbing and bottom fishing in the ocean (near-shore)? Anything to warrant bringing the boat? PM is fine or post here for all...

If the forecast holds up, I suspect the bar will be very restricted so the ocean isn't a good bet.

NW WIND 15 TO 20 KT WITH GUSTS TO 25 KT. WIND WAVES
4 FT. NW SWELL 12 FT.

I can't speak to fishing in the bay, but the crabbing is been dismal.

My wife and I crabbed and jigged herring today through the high tide at about 1:30 PM.

NO CRABS and 2 herring. Pretty dismal, except for the fact all the little girls were in school and we got to spend some mommy/daddy time together without "why", "how come", "NO!", "Mom!", "Dad!" and other assorted kid screams...

Didn't try any bay area bottom fishing, but the forecast calls for a bumpy ocean this coming weekend.
