sad and happy weekend at the beach.
The family and I, as well as another family headed out to the coast to escape the heat in portland on friday. It was a somber start when we approached the gas station on Hwy 6 in banks. A fatal motorcycle/car accident. It was terrible.
First thing I did was phone a close friend who rides a bike and tell him to be extra careful out there. I think he appreciated the call.
On sat., I was down the street when I hear a bunch of sirens approaching so I ran back to the house, sick to death fearing one of our kids was involved. I ran to a
a bunch of police cars and an ambulance. First thing I saw was my poor neighbor lying dead in his yard. He suffered a massive heart attack while cutting his grass in the heat.! He was such a sweet guy. Only 62. This was his dream home, and he was so close to closing his dental practice to focus on enjoying life in retirement. Very sad!! It hit me hard, as it reminded me so much of almost loosing my dad the same way.
Both events made me ponder long and hard about how important it is to hug you family, say "I love you's", and live every day in the present, making the very most of it. Your time can come when you least expect it. We don't always have "tomorrows"
We did manage to salvage the weekend and had some wonderful happy moments on the beach with wonderful friends. The kids had a blast playing in the water and watching the seals.
Peace, and enjoy the heat and sunshine.
