Default external water pump

I have an old omc stringer outdrive that just isnt pumping enough water to the manifolds even with a new water pump. But run a hose to it and she runs cool as a cucumber. Has anyone used an external water pump to fix this problem?

Cool Re: external water pump

Sounds like your manifolds are corroded or theres some sand stuck somewhere ahead of the pump ...
I have also seen pinhole leaks in the delivery tubes do the same ...

The mechanic seems to think it is a leak in the return tube also. But I want to get a heat exchange eventually so I think that the external pump will put me part of the way there.
