Let's get back to the shrimp question. The only real successful boat at Suttle this weekend was using shrimp and corn. Corn I have used, duh, but whats the scoop on the shrimp?

Just a quick question regarding the original post, Are we talking about sand shrimp or table shimp? IE shrimp cocktail shimp?

my uncle and I used to use canned shrimp.....like cocktail shrimp.... we would slide it up over the hook on the line so it would turn a bit and then use corn on the hook it worked at LBC, have never tried that combo anywhere else. I have used chunks of uncooked shrimp bought from safeway for trout fishing before, one time was really good and another was not so good.

Hmm... I've not heard or ever seen this mentioned and I am pretty active fishing a lot of the Kokanee lakes in California as well as in the organizations. Funny thing is my brother-in-law from Salem was saying it was outlawed in Oregon but I looked the DFG regs and saw nothing so I called BS on him although it may have been at one time. I'm pretty sure it is illegal at Flaming Gorge as I have heard talk of using the Berkley Power maggots and things like that.

As for scents, Shrimp is in my box in the form of the Pro-cure gels and I will use the oil to pre-soak the corn. Of course I have about 9 other scents along as well... wish I could buy stock in Pro-Cure. Don't be afraid to try a bit of herring scent as well. The key is to mix it up IMO if you are having a slow day. My kids remind me to try something different on the scents and it has paid off more than once. The staples for a lot of people I talk to and even myself are Kokanee special, Carp Spit, Anise Krill, Anise Crawfish, Anise Plus, Garlic Plus.

Wickiup has had a long tradition of something called the "Wickiup Sandwich." Its a combo of any of the following: shrimp or prawns or crawdad tails, worm, corn, Pautzke eggs. Fish still or with a slight jig action. Silver Bullets and any of the La Pine guys can verify this.
