Man, That was one looong boat ride back from the ranch Sat.(4 hrs) I think I'll be p***ing blood for a week. Got out there around 9:30 am and immediately spooled my reel trying to turn back into the drift.I couldnt get that 3lb ball on the bottom. Pounding on the boat loosened a battery terminal just after the bar crossing coming back in, glad it happened in the bay as it took a bit to find the problem. Guess I'll get mine next time.

Default Halibut 5/11

The fish were hard to come by due to the stong chop and fast drifts. Lots caught on Friday but Saturday was a different story. They seem smaller this year with our biggest at 49". The bottom fishing at the rockpile was slow as well. It was a bit bumpy and I feel like I sat in a paint shaker for 13 hours.

Anyone else dragging at work today? Got our fish both days, on Saturday, we got our ***** kicked like everyone else. Left at five, fishing by 8, leaving at 9, home by 12:30, shaken but not stirred.

Our biggest for the two days was 48" which translates to 52.8 pounds. Hooowee. I saw one guy cleaning a 45" fish, and the bass **** said he caught it inside of the rockpile! Grrrrr. Wouldn't give me numbers, but swore up and down he didn't run all the way to the ranch.

One day was not enough to recover.

Big swell. I am going to do a wait and see. God it looks nice out there today. No way I am taking the same punishment we took Saturday. And I am running to Garibaldi. 10 miles closer would have been pretty welcom saturday.

My neck is still sore from the punishment. Hope I didn't compress anything permanently. I was half asleep all day, and would head to bed now if I thought I could sleep all night.

We tried N of the ranch on Friday and couldn't get any takers, so we joined the main fleet. But, it took us till 1:30 to get the 3 of us limited. Caught and thew back several undersize, and one fisher had to mess with 5 black cod. Amazing that one guy could catch 5 of them, and the other 2 of us hooked none. Maybe he has a touch for the lighter bite.

Saturday we found a better hole and were done at 11:30. Boy were we glad to be hauling out of there. We were calling it off at noon regardless, and were very glad to get our 3 fish in the boat.

Somebody tell me an old tale from their Grandpa about the day the ocean layed down. Then I can close my eyes and dream.
