I woke up at 3:45 and listened to the predictions on the hand held, then went back to sleep. It didn't look to bad at day light from the front window of the cabin, but the white caps soon showed. We dumped the pots about noon in the ocean and I wouldn't consider picking them back up that afternoon. They soaked until morning.
We did pick up a nice Ling for dinner inside the jaws though, so the day wasn't a complete bust.
When we were putting in around noon, some guy, that thought he had seen us out there was pulling out and asked how we had done. I told him it wasn't us and that I felt sorry for him. I wouldn't have wanted to be out there in those conditions.
I saw Pilar come across the bar for a break, or a little rearrangement before heading out again for his pots. He looked pretty small going back out again against the rollers. In the water for a second, out the water for a second. You must have had your radio off Pilar? I tried to hail you after you got into the smooth water with no luck. Someone else was hailing you as well, but never said who they were. Maybe the CG wanting a swell report? "Hey we don't need to go out, I know a guy we can call for a first hand report!"
