Things were just down right non coopperative today. Both vessal and water. Big Blue was too rough for a 19ft sled. The trip out would have taken 3 hours had we stuck with it. Plus I had a heater motor shorting. The fan went to 1/4 speed and the fuel gauge and windsheild wiper dropped out. We did see Pilar. He passed us near the Bar while I was topping off the fuel tank. No doubt thinking "who the hell are them crackers". When the guage quit working I thought maybe some theives had got my fuel! Pilar was dropping his crab pots when we decided there would be
better days. Praying for better conditions next week!

If it would have taken you three hours out it would have been five back. You made the right call. If my guests weren't from out of town, I would have bagged it. It wasn't worth it, at least not with four fish in the cooler back at camp from Friday.

NorRiverDave, yeah we came back in to stack crab gear before pulling the rest of it. The VHF radio was the only casualty of the rough water. It went out on the trip back in to the beach.

This left 'Puffin' hanging because we were on a 30 minute pep talk schedule on the VHF and I quit answering or hailing. They were glad to see the blue boat when they came in.

I woke up at 3:45 and listened to the predictions on the hand held, then went back to sleep. It didn't look to bad at day light from the front window of the cabin, but the white caps soon showed. We dumped the pots about noon in the ocean and I wouldn't consider picking them back up that afternoon. They soaked until morning.
We did pick up a nice Ling for dinner inside the jaws though, so the day wasn't a complete bust.

When we were putting in around noon, some guy, that thought he had seen us out there was pulling out and asked how we had done. I told him it wasn't us and that I felt sorry for him. I wouldn't have wanted to be out there in those conditions.

I saw Pilar come across the bar for a break, or a little rearrangement before heading out again for his pots. He looked pretty small going back out again against the rollers. In the water for a second, out the water for a second. You must have had your radio off Pilar? I tried to hail you after you got into the smooth water with no luck. Someone else was hailing you as well, but never said who they were. Maybe the CG wanting a swell report? "Hey we don't need to go out, I know a guy we can call for a first hand report!"
