Hmmmm. They don't show the part abut the riders falling over and getting killed.
(sorry for short hijack)

Re: GL 1800 Goldwing VS. ST 1300
I don't have either one. I've heard some reports of ST1300s getting really hot in the seat in bumper to bumper traffic. As in, you feel lots of heat off the back heads of the V4.
A GoldWing may age you somewhat. Goldwings have things like vents that will help in colder weather. The Goldwing has more storage of course and more comfortable for a passenger if that matters. Also, parking is more of an issue for the GoldWing since it is bigger in every dimension. That could also make a difference for close quarter manuevering in traffic.

Re: GL 1800 Goldwing VS. ST 1300
I took my Valkyrie in a couple years back for a tune. The dealer let me take 1800 Goldwing to work. Oh my that was pretty nice.
Had it up to 125 mph on the way to work. Very quiet and very, very, smooth. Could listen to the stereo.
Told my wife when I got home I was officially an old ****.
I liked it a lot.

There is 2006 with less than 2000 miles here on Boise Craigs list. I'd go look at for you if you are serious.

Check out the Kawasaki Concourse. It's a bike that is of an older design, but very reasonably priced. Inline 4 so you can work on it easy. My Brother commutes 90 miles a day on one in the Bay Area and loves it compared to his sport bikes. Just another option to look at in the sport touring arena.

Don't think you can go wrong with the Goldwing. I don't have one myself, but my buddy at work has one and he loves it, lots of bell and whistles.

Re: GL 1800 Goldwing VS. ST 1300
I have other bikes for you to check out....triumph trophy or the sprint st, also I have ridden all of the bikes mentioned there some on some long rides, (the st was one) I like the st but I really like the triumph sprint st but it all depends on how you like to ride. oh I am 6'3" and I was a tad cramped on the concours but it was an older version.

I'm glad you checked out the Concourse. They are nicer now than my Brothers year, and his is only a 1000.

Re: GL 1800 Goldwing VS. ST 1300
It's good to know that Kawasaki finally replaced their dinosaur. I'm a little surprised the MPG is so low, but I guess they tuned it for performance.
Also, I wish they would have made the riding position a little more roomy (noticed on the concours forum people are extending pegs), but then again, I'll probably never buy one.

Wow, record time for your "if you even so much as look at a motorcycle you'll die" input, Thumper. (which, curiously enough, is also motorcycle slang for a single cylinder motorcycle)
Congrats on the choice, GF. I'm currently on a Shadow myself and have no problems with it other than I'd really prefer not to leave it out in the rain, which means I may only get a few days of riding this summer. Thinking about a V-Strom, among some other choices.

Ya know I said the heck with it and ride rain or shine. $4.00 a gallon will do that to ya when you drive 70+ miles to work and back. The Shadow is a great bike and gets awesome milage Im averageing 52mpg on mine. I just want a better touring bike and one that will make a trip to Michigan with out killing my butt along the way. LOL them shadow seat are hard after a while. Its going to take a bit of time to get my Conni cause I have to sell my boat and pay the truck off but Im hopeing it'll happen this summer.
